Oat-Packed Bread May Help Fight Diabetes

Scottish researchers at Aberdeen University are studying whether eating oat-packed bread can help control blood sugar levels, and in turn tackle diabetes.
For the purpose of their study, the researchers approached Macphie of Glenbervie, the Aberdeenshire-based food ingredients maker, and JG Ross Bakers in Inverurie.
The bread, which will be available in JG Ross shops this week, will be eaten by the study"s subjects.
"Our
initial
testing
of
the
bread
indicates
that
it
is
very
palatable," the
Scotsman
quoted
Dr.
Alex
Johnstone,
a
researcher
associated
with
the
project,
as
saying.
According to him, the study would examine whether the bread "could delay the need for people with type 2 diabetes to start taking tablets or insulin to control their blood sugar".
