GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) diet is a special diet that is advised to people who have a acid reflux problem. Most often there is no better solution to controlling GERD symptoms like acidity in the stomach, ingestion and reflux of food than to control your food habits. What GERD Diet Must Contain?

However, you have to watch out for one small detail. These vegetables grow every close to the earth so make sure that you clean them properly before eating.
2. Lean Meats: This diet does not deprive you of meat totally; all we ask is that you eat meat with very little or absolutely no fat in it. Prefer white meats like chicken, turkey, etc. Fish is a great replacement for fat meat. However, fish too has to be without stored fats. So small fish instead of big ones.
3. Egg Whites: The albumin part of the egg is permitted in this diet because it is easy to digest and also fat less.
4. Cereals: Rice is much easier to digest than wheat although it is more fattening. You can have brown rice instead of white to control the starch intake. The bread you eat should not be too old because yeast causes acidity.
5. Fruits: Apples and bananas are supposed to be the best to treat GERD symptoms so have at least one of these everyday.

What GERD Diet Must Not Contain?

1. Dairy Products: Usually milk and milk products are difficult to digest and lactose intolerance is pretty common. So this diet usually prohibits diary products.
2. Citrus Fruits: Stay away from anything that is sour. Be it tomatoes, oranges, lemon, lime, cranberry, etc. They are all potentially acidic and can cause trouble in your fragile stomach.
3. Vegetables: Most vegetables are fine in this diet but avoid raw onions and cucumbers as they are known to cause indigestion.
4. Processed Meat: Have fresh meat instead of preserved ones.
5. Coffee/Tea/Aerated Drinks: It is a detox diet so it is better to stay away from toxins like caffeine and compressed carbon dioxide. If you are a coffee addict it will be difficult. Try to limit the number of mugs to 2 and prefer black coffee to whitened ones.
