Traditional Bengali Jewellery, Especially For Durga Puja

Kaan Pasha

Kaan pasha is one of the authentic Bengali forms of the modern age ear cuffs. Kaan pasha takes the shape of the ear and has minute crafted descriptions. Kaan pasha makes a woman look royal and brings out the authenticity of a true Bengali, during marriage and festivals like Durga Puja.

Tikli

Tikli is actually the widely used Indian jewellery known as "Maang Tika," made with pure gold and no external kundan or stone embossed on them. Bengalis like to wear their jewellery without any other things included in the pure gold body.

To them, this brings out the true beauty and it truly does.

Nath

Nath is not just a Bengali thing but wholly an Indian traditional jewellery but Bengalis do have special types of designs and patterns used in their naths. They wear it like a big ring through their nose piercing, which is attached with a chain that clips on top of the ear. Mind it, it has to be made of gold.

The smaller portion of the nath is called a "naak chaabi".

Jhumko

Jhumko is the Bengali form of what is popularly known as 'jhumka' and they also have a definite pattern for Bengalis. For Durga Puja, Bengalis prefer to wear this even if they do not want to be over-jammed with accessories.

A pair of pretty jhumkos can make any Bengali girl look prettier.

Chik

Chik is the Bengali form of the choker and it comes in wider forms. Bengali women look very beautiful if they wear a gorgeous 'chik' around their neck with a sari. A 'tant' sari would do the best pairing with a gold chik.

Sita Haar

Sita haar is the longer necklace worn by Bengali women. A married Bengali would have a tradition of wearing a sita haar but as time has modernized, people do not wear it regularly. During Durga Puja, any Bengali, especially married women would compulsorily wear a sita haar with sarees.

The name is distinctive because mythologically, Sita left traces of her necklaces (shaped as Sita's hair), making it easier for Lord Ram to track her when she was abducted by Raavan.

Bala

Bala is the thick band bangles worn by Bengalis along with smaller bangles called 'churi'. Bala is worn by any Bengali, traditionally made of gold but has always had a place in a Bengali woman's hands when she is adorning herself for Durga Puja.

Mantasha

Mantasha is a very pretty ornament worn by Bengali women, during special occasions like marriage, festivals and, of course, Durga Puja. Mantasha is a wider bracelet which has engraved gold craft work done on it. It is so wide that there is no need for any other jewellery to be worn on that hand.

Traditionally, it is worn on one hand and the other hand can stay empty or smaller bangles can be worn.

Ratnachur

Ratnachur is a bracelet which is attached to rings of every finger with the help of strings. This is also purely made of gold and it fills up the back of the palm very beautifully. Ratnachur mainly comes with shapes of peacock or lotus on the centre of the palm's back.

Angti

Angti is the Bengali name for rings and as it completes every traditional attire, for Bengalis, it is a must wear with traditional attires during Durga Puja and other special occasions. Bengalis have specific patterns for rings which make the fingers look spectacularly gorgeous.
