Utkatasana Or Chair Pose

By Super Admin

The word Utkata would mean powerful, fierce or uneven. This pose is akin to sitting on an imaginary and hence its name, the Chair Pose.

1.Stand in Tadasana. Stretch the arms over the head with palms joined together.
2.Exhale and lower the trunk by bending the knee till the thighs are parallel to the floor.
3.Breathe normally and have the chest back as much as possible without giving way to stooping forward.
4.Remain in this pose for about 30 seconds.
5.Inhale and straighten the legs and lower the arms and return back to Tadasana.

Benefits

Utkatasana makes the ankles strong and aids in developing the leg muscles evenly. It removes the stiffness in the shoulders and corrects minor deformities in the legs. Since the diaphragm is lifted up, it gently massages the heart. It further tones the abdominal organs and the back. It also helps in the development of the chest as it gets fully expanded. The pose is beneficial for horse riders.
