According to the Hindu calendar, on Ganga Dussehra, there will be a wonderful confluence of Amrit Siddhi Yoga and Ravi Siddhi Yoga along with Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga. There is also Hasta Nakshatra on this day which will make Ganga Dussehra more special.
Due to the creation of four auspicious coincidences, all the wishes will be fulfilled by worshiping Ganga and taking a bath in the holy river Ganges on this day.
Ganga Dussehra 2024: Puja Rituals
There is a religious belief that waking up before sunrise and bathing in the Ganges in the Brahma Muhurta on this day with a concentrated and calm mind will liberate you from all kinds of sins- physical, mental, and verbal.
During this time, special prayers should be sung in front of the Ganges for the peace and salvation of our ancestors. One should also apologize to Mother Ganga for the sins committed by oneself knowingly or unknowingly. By doing this one receives the blessings of the Ganges.
Ganga Dussehra 2024: Significance
According to Hindu scriptures, the descent of the Ganges was orchestrated by Lord Shiva, who caught the mighty river in his matted locks to prevent her force from wreaking havoc on the earth. The celestial event is believed to have occurred on Ganga Dussehra, when the Ganges descended to earth, purifying the souls of those who bathed in her sacred waters and providing nourishment to the land.
Devotees across India observe Ganga Dussehra with great fervor, gathering at the banks of the Ganges to perform rituals, offer prayers, and take holy dips in the river to seek blessings and cleanse their sins. It is believed that bathing in the Ganges on Ganga Dussehra is particularly auspicious and can grant liberation (moksha) from the cycle of birth and death.
As the sun rises on Ganga Dussehra, devotees flock to the ghats (riverbanks) of the Ganges to witness the divine spectacle and participate in rituals such as puja (worship), aarti (offering of light), and recitation of hymns and mantras. Throughout the day, devotees offer flowers, fruits, and other offerings to the river goddess, expressing their reverence and gratitude for her benevolence.
