Ravana's Attempt To Change Planetary Positions

Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, had suppressed all the grahas and placed his foot on their backs as a symbol of his victory over them. Ravana was an adept astrologer who forced all the grahas to be in positions prescribed by him so that Indrajit will be born a blessed child who can defeat anyone.

Devas were naturally worried. This was a nefarious act but at the same time shows how much of control he exercised over the celestial bodies singlehandedly. Such was the might of Ravana. Shani's Helpful Suggestion

The devas, afraid of the consequences, requested the planets not to move to the positions that Ravana had prescribed for them. But The planets were unable to even stir out of their positions under the irrepressible feet of Ravana.. It was only Shani who came up with an astute idea and assured them that he would bring Ravanas hopes crashing down only if were allowed to glance at Ravana's face. Narada Arrives

At this juncture, the Devas thought of Devarshi Narad. This is where he comes in. Saint Narada travelled in the speed of light (this was possible for yesteryears rishis and saints and enough proof is available in the books on Atlantis which somehow connects this phenomenon with Rishis of Yore.) Saint Narada reached Ravana's palace and saw Shani and other planets trembling under the feet of Ravana.

Rishi Narada grasped the situation in a split second, and flattered Ravana first and then suggested that instead of stamping on their back he should place his legs on their chest so that his victory is complete. Ravana appreciated Rishi Narad's wisdom and observation and immediately upturned all the planets.

Shani's Gaze Fell On Ravan's Face

As he upturned Shani, Shanis glance fell directly on Ravanas face. With this, started Ravanas unlucky phase. He also gazed at the house he was supposed to occupy and hence Indrajit was unable to be born under the planetary influences that Ravana wanted him to be born under. So as an act of revenge, Ravana imprisoned Shani in a tiny cellar where no one would be able to see his face.

After several years when Hanuman arrived in Lanka in search of Sita, he found this cellar and rescued Shani.

Shani just said that Hanuman had to go through hardships as he had seen Shani eye to eye to which Hanuman agreed. He said that hanuman should have Shani sit on his head, and then separate him from his family and cause suffering. Shani sat on Hanuman's head.

How Shani Accepted His Defeat

Then Hanuman fought the demons in Lanka, in a violent fight that ensued. Shani was greatly hurt by the consequences of the war. So he climbed down from Hanumans back and accepted his defeat. He also gave him a boon that Hanuman's devotees will not be troubled by Shani.Although a malefic planet, Shani had principles and guts that led him to act against Ravans will and be a friend to the righteous Hanuman.

The entire master plan was Rishi Narad's and no one else. He was a divine sage who exactly knew where things would be headed and what needs to be done. Although sometimes he may appear mischievous or as a trouble creator, finally people around him realize that it was a boon in disguise and was carried out as per divine scheme and plan.
