Were Radha And Rukmini One And The Same Or Separate Entities?

Radha, otherwise known as Radhika as per scriptures, is a Hindu goddess and consort of Lord Krishna. She is worshiped for her love, compassion and devotion to Krishna.

Although she was the chief Gopika, she was described as the avatar of Lakshmi. According to panchang, Radharani was born on the Ashtami of Shukla Paksha Bhadrapada month in Anuradha Nakshatra at 12 noon in town of Barsana Uttar Pradesh.

Were Rukmini And Radha The Same?

Rukmini was the first queen and chief consort of Krishna. Vaishnavaites insist that she is the chief queen of Krishna in Dwaraka and most important amongst his wives/ She is an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi.adha and Rukmini are the same and they are Goddess Lakshmis incarnation. Rukmini married Lord Shri Krishna as Lakshmi has to marry Krishna in each incarnation.

Rukmini and Radha were not different from each other. The child hood and other intricate details of the lives of both Radha and Rukmini match with each other very well.. Rukmini and Radha were both older than Krishna, as per scriptures. Both Loved Shri Krishna when young. They both grew up to be Krishna's close friend and confidante.

Then why two names were given to both of them and what about their parents. There was an evil demoness called Putana who killed Children by giving them her venomous milk to suck. Putana similarly kidnapped a child from Vidarbha by name Rukmini and tried to carry her to some place to eat her. But on the way, Rukmini grew very heavy for Putana and hence Putana left her there inside a lotus flower. Then Vrishbhanu and his wife Kirtida spotted her and carried her home. They called her Radha.

After a long time, Rukminis father came to know that his daughter was growing up with someone else, and he rushed to Vrishbhanu's house and requested Vrishbhanu to give him back his daughter. Radha thus, returned to vidarbha under the name Rukmini.

Here at this juncture, no one mentions what happened to Radha at the end. So Radha and Rukmini were two names given to a single person. But Krishna knew this truth about Rukmini and married her as she was his true consort and Goddess Lakshmi. It was not just a marriage where two people eloped together and set up a family. It was willed by the divine, and carried out by a God and finally the consorts united as they would in every janma with each other.

Was Radha A Separate Entity?

Another story says that Radha indeed was a different entity that grew up in Vrindavan. She also settled in Vrindavan up to her last. There are some opinions that say that Radha was already married to another Gopa and hence could not marry Krishna. Krishna and Radha were merged within each other's souls with true love and hence they did not find the need to marry each other physically at all as their love was spiritual.

It is also told that Radha used to guide Krishna at times. Her last days were spent in tears and she visited dwaraka and Krishna. She was disappointed with the physical proximity as she found herself happier with the spiritual closeness she enjoyed with Lord Krishna. She goes back to her Vrindavan and gets initiated into an order of Monks and lives her rest of the life in Krishnas remembrance. She calls him when her final moments neared and asked him to play the flute for her. As he started playing, midway, Radha shed her mortal coil. Krishna immediately came to know and broke his flute never to play it again.
