Ugadi 2023: How Is It Celebrated In Andhra Pradesh?
To people of Andhra pradesh, Ugadi is a much awaited festival as it happens to be the harvest festival as well. There is a festive commotion seen everywhere. Out of the most popular festivals that are celebrated in Andhra, Ugadi is given a place of prominence.

Different places in Andhra have different set of important festivals specific to that region. While Pongal is celebrated in Guntar, Ugadi in Hyderabad and Vijayawada, Vinayaka Chaturthi in Kanipakam and Machilipatnam, and Lumbini in Nagarjunasagar.

Ugadi
is
the
occasion
to
forget
the
pains
of
the
past
and
welcome
the
challenges
of
the
present,
along
with
the
good
tidings
that
it
brings.
Bhaskaracharya,
the
ancient
Indian
mathematician
marked
Ugadi
as
the
beginning
of
the
year.
Ugadi 2023: Panchang Shravan
Apart from the usual festive preparations and rituals, there is yet another ritual held for the family by elders. Priests in temples, predict the mundane and personal astrological details in a session called Panchang Shravan. He reads the "Panchanga" for the coming year wherein people's fortunes for the next year, the rainfall and eclipses that may occur during the year, and political astrology in the Panchang are foretold.".
Ugadi 2023: Celebrations
On this day the people get up early in the morning, wash their hair with sesame oil before the break of dawn, this is called Abhyang. They wear fresh and festive attire, decorate the puja Mandir. They purify their houses with fresh cow dung which in itself has cleansing effect. Place Idols of Gods in an artistic way decking them in silk. Colourful Rangolis are drawn on the floor, Mango twigs and tender leaves are hung as torans on the doors. Mango leaves and Jasmine flowers are extensively used for the fragrance and health benefits they offer. This pleases Kartikeya and Ganesha as they are fond of Mangoes..
People exchange gifts, and donate to the suffering and the poor. They prepare a special food called Ugadi Pachdi which is composed of all those edible items that represent every emotion in a human being's life. They visit temples and offer their pujas. The food menu for this day is absolutely sattvic and vegetarian. Towards the last part of the day, Kavi Sammelan or a conference of poets are held wherein they recite poems on Yugadi.
Bevu Bella, is followed by servings of other sweet dishes like Holige and pulihora are prepared to celebrate the spirit of Ugadi. Finally, the festival comes to a close with preparation and distribution of BadamHalwa, Paramannum and AtukuluPayassum.
