Ugadi 2023: Astrological, Spiritual, And Historical Significance Of Ugadi
Ugadi reflects on the transient nature of life and the cycle of happiness and sorrow that come one after another. Everytime we face every turbulence in our lives, we wade through it successfully due to our will and efforts. Problems are followed by incidences of Pleasure which are nothing but the good times that prepare you for the next turmoil.

Or you could see life as happiness interspersed with challenges inbetween. It depends on the way you see things. Anyway, good or bad, life has a limited shelflife and is temporary and this can not be ignored. When something does not work the way you want, probably you are exerting yourself in the right direction. Ugadi is reminiscent of all these journey of happiness and sorrow that one needs to surmount by displaying equanimity. This is also the reason why on Ugadi, we pray for happiness and removal of hurdles from God.
The Ugadi is going to be observed on March 22, Wednesday. The Pratipada Tithi begins on 21 March 2023 at 10:52 pm and ends on 22 March 2023 at 8:20 pm. Ugadi is the day with which the New year begins for people of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. This joyous occasion is celebrated with with loved ones for whom we buy gifts, give away within our means to chaity, prepare delectable dishes and visit temples with family.

Ganesha, parvati, shiva, durga, and Lakshmi Narayana are also worshipped on this day. Vishnu is also predominantly worshipped on this day because he is called Yugadikrit. Since it is the first day of Chaitra Navratri, Goddess Shailputri is also worshipped. Gods have subdued the wicked and saved the righteous and Ugadi is the day to remember their leelas as well as face our pains and pleasures in the same manner as our Gods. They have set an example for us to follow through their leelas. Vishnu was the creator of yugas and hence called Yugadikrit.

Ugadi is celebrated on the first day of the new astronomical cycle.
3. Natural Significance
Mother nature drops her wilting leaves, and shriveled fruits to reinvent herself for the Ugadi that arrives in spring. She rejuvenates herself and recreates her green splendor and the nature looks evergreen and soothing. This inspires the people to celebrate this day as Vasant Navaratri, as this also happens to be the first day of Chaitra Navratri. This festival continues upto the last day of Navratri, that is upto Ram Navami. Ugadi heralds the arrival of Spring which would already be evident in nature. Ugadi celebration inspires people to reinvent themselves every year. During Ugadi, one can see profuse usage of jasmine and mango as it also represents well being. Jasmine fragrance uplifts your spirits where as neem and mango fragrance heal airborne sicknesses.
4. Historical Significance
Krishna left to his celestial abode in the early hours of Chaitra on 18th February around 3000 BC. This is when Kalyug descended into our lives and lifestyles. It marked the end of Dwaparayuga and beginning of Kali Yuga. Yugadi was the onset of Kaliyuga. The great Maths vidwan of ancient times, Bhaskaracharya, also inferred that Ugadi is the day with which the new year and new month commenced.
