From Consciousness To Cosmos: Understanding Reality Through The Vedic Lens
Akrodha-(Absence of Anger or Resolution of Anger)-Part I
At the outset, let us accept the fact that every human being at some point of time or the other experiences Krodha. There is none who has escaped its snare and there is none who can remain perfectly devoid of anger always. People live under this illusion that anger can be completely neutralised and that any spiritual aspirant who gets angry has fallen from grace – "Hey, you read so much of Vedanta and still you're getting angry?!" they exclaim. To expect a sadhaka to transform himself /herself into a vegetating, humble, toothless cow or tree is quite a ridiculous fancy.
So, getting angry is equated with committing a sin and this gives rise to more guilt. The poor spiritual aspirant already has much discontent to resolve and this unwanted guilt is heaped upon him in addition, by those who have never attempted to control their rebellious mind and senses. What an irony! In fact, the spiritual aspirant has more reason to be angry with oneself and the world around than those who're indulging in it.
Suggested Reading: 'Overcoming Anger' by Swami Budhananda, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Publication, Chennai – Compilation of a series of talks given by Swami Budhananda (1917-1983), a great scholar and senior monk of the Ramakrishna Mission, at the Delhi centre in 1982.
