Sirappueenum selvam perinum pirarkkuinna Seyyaamai maasatraar koal.

Even if it is productive of wealth and attendant fame,Men of virtue will surely not do harm to others.

The idea here is that, for securing a material or spiritual benefit too, causing harm to others is unjustifiable. Kalinagar specifically interprets 'Sirappu' as 'Mukthi' meaning heaven or release. Valuvar would, hold up 'Not causing harm to others; as the ultimate ideal of righteousness. This reminds one of Cardinal Newman's definition of a gentleman, 'as one who does not inflict pain on others.'
