Those
who
know
the
harm
that
comes
of
deeds
of
envy,
Will
shun
all
evil
arising
out
of
it.
People who realize the trail of harm that envy brings in its wake will not permit themselves to be swayed by envious feelings.
We see misery all round in the world, only because the world is full of men who do not abide by this salutary principle.
In this context one recalls to mind that didactic fable in which, a man who was burning with envy of his neighbour, was willing to lose half his wealth so that his neighbour may lose his all and also, one of this own eyes so that his neighbour may lose his sight in both eyes. The story illustrates the extent of evil that can arise out of consuming envy.
