Compassion

Men of no compassion, who indulge in unkindness to all creatures Will so forget themselves as to lose the means of reaching heaven.
Men without compassion are men without virtue; it will not be surprising, therefore, if they miss the way to heaven. Parimelalagar would say that 'xxxxxxx' here menas 'xxxx' or virtue, which is a thing of lasting value. It might as well mean 'xxxx' the fourth aspect life's goal (i.e.) 'veedu' or heaven, or final release, in whatever way we may choose to look at it.
Parimelalagar refers in Kural 4 to three possible harms that can befall one-those relating to oneself, to one's friends and to God. All these involve also the loss of 'aram' and consequently of 'veedu' i.e. virtue and heaven.
