The Temple of Lord Jatoli Shiva At Himachal Pradesh
Jata (matted locks or hairs) indicates the long matted locks of Lord Shiva. The temple was named so due to the same reason. Jatoli Shvia resides inside a 122 ft tall temple that is, on record, the highest temple ever in Asia. There is also a Shiva linga which is about 11 feet long. Jatli Shiva mandir is a curious mix of beauty, grandeur, and mystery all put together. Built using the finest architectural techniques, Jatoli Shiva temple is most popular at Solan which is just a 6 km drive from the city.

It is built in Indo Aryan architectural style where the top tower is round with a curvilinear outline that ends into a tip. Golden kalash decorates the tip. This temple was renovated to look slightly different as it was modified in Dravidian style with three pyramids raised at strategic places. A huge gold kalash is installed inside which makes a very pretty and special picture. It has taken over 35 years to build this to completion.
Architecture
Perched on a hilltop, up above the layers of clouds, the Jatoli temple looks spectacular in a heavenly ambience up above. Jatoli temple is connected to several legends that make this a unique destination for pilgrimage. Inside the temple, there is a linga is also installed and worshipped. It has glass like structures with brahma and Vishnu images. Known to be the resting place of Lord Shiva once upon a time, it is made in southern Dravidian style with three pyramids or shikhars. The height of shikhars appears to be in ascending order. Second part is called the Vimana, which is at a lower level compared to the first pyramind, the Shikhar. On the third pyramid you can see Shiva's Trishul on both sides. The first pyramind bears Lord Ganesha images, on the second a sculpture of Seshnag. Jal kund or an ancient water tank with therapeutic powers can be found at the northeast corner of Jatoli Shiva mandir which is considered as holy as the river Ganges. Certain skin diseases of devotees have been cured with a single dip. The cave where Krishnananda paramhamsa penanced is where they hold annual fairs especially during Mahashivaratri. It is usually crowded at this time. He seemed to have told the locals to build a temple for Shiva, at the ending stage of his penance and later attained mahasamadhi here itself.
