Ruby Rises Again-A Healing Miracle

Healing Miracle, Ramana Maharshi
Black lean body, a little above the floor, a perfect Dachshund with eyes expressing immense love; frisking about eagerly to win attention with its untainted affection, Ruby is my friend's little pet,an extension of her family.

My friend, one day sobbed over the phone over Ruby suddenly being victimize by Canine distemper, a major fatal disease that strike dogs. The little dog had suddenly developed a paralytic attack almost disabling its hind legs. My friend stated in between sniffs that it was undergoing excruciating pain and was sinking into immobility. The little it moved was with its two legs in the front with which it tried to drag the hind legs that were giving in to disability. It was a pathetic sight. The X ray showed that there was some problem with its spine as well. It was diagnosed that Ruby's disease was far ahead of a possible cure. The family was contemplating on mercy killing to relieve the pain undergone at both the ends, Ruby as well as its adorers. It was too much for my friend, who naturally saddens at the suffering of any animal for that matter, be it a pet or a stray.

Bhagavan Ramana was the one who popped up in my mind's eye immediately. The only resort to rest one's burdens whose compassion spread across invariably to all like that of the blanketing sky stretching its domain uniformly all over. I was at once reminded of His compassion that surpassed all disparities and discrimination, there by liberating a dog called Jackie, exalting it to the position among the enlightened. His mercy beyond measure enveloped all beings and extended apart from humans to other species like crow, cow, monkeys, squirrels, dogs, deer, peacocks to even inanimate objects like trees and stones etc. His grace rendered the divine state to even animals and birds that there are monuments to testify the realised state of the Ramana ashram cow, Lakshmi, Jackie the dog, Valli the deer and a crow that died in His hands.

I persuaded my friend to have mercy killing as the last option and try all means possible to treat Ruby. I concluded the conversation by asking her to pray to Ramana imploring Him to do what ever is the best for Ruby. My friend had already sought refuge in Bhagavan and just as she hung the phone, a picture of Ramana was zoomed on the TV screen, featured in one of the channels as her father watched the television. It was a clear reassurance of Bhagavan's Grace over the issue.

The idea of mercy killing was however dropped as my friend could not pull herself to confront it. Slowly Ruby started showing signs of improvement. The dog slowly started to wobble about though with unsteady steps. The pain responded to the treatment and soon Ruby started gaining strength in her hind legs. However she could not climb the steps to my friend's room for a cozy cuddle every morning. During one of the succession of calls, I was told that Ruby's legs stretched across the flight of stairs devouring the distance to her room for the customary cuddle.

On my visit to my friend's home, I found Ruby frisking about me with the usual affection with eyes speaking volumes of love.

Bhagavan paralyzed the paralysing disease. The disease took to its heels as Bhagavan's Grace remained as the strength in her legs. A second lease of life for Ruby and as for me I witnessed the power of His Grace, protection being its characteristic nature.
