When the cosmic alignment of this kind happens in the sky, it is treated as a god sent opportunity for chanting mantras and the japa sadhana. We have several observances such as Sparsh Kaal, Moksha Kaal, and the planetary remedies that must be followed. The Grahan or eclipse s going to be on Thursday, 20 April 2023. Even if the eclipse is not visible in India, shastras allow us to chant mantras and stotras on the eclipse day. It may not yield cent percent results that a regular eclipse gives, but certainly it ensures that your wishes are fulfilled.

Date And Time

Solar Eclipse will be visible from 7:04 am to 12:29 pm, wherein the total duration including Sparsh Kaal, Punya Kaal and Moksha Kaal of this eclipse will last for 5 hours 24 minutes.

Since it is not visible in India, the sutak period is also not going to be valid. This time the eclipse is going to be hard on people born under Aries, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, and Capricorn. It is going to be particularly good to the natives of Taurus, Gemini, Sagittarius, Aquarius and Pisces.

Some of the mantras and stotras to be recited on this day have been given here as follows.

You can chant the santana Gopala mantra incase someone is pregnant at home. During Surya Grahan, devout Hindus can chant mantras and stotras but doing Puja is prohibited. Why is the puja prohibited? During the Eclipse, the sun and moon emit negative vibrations. During Puja, we also do mangalaarati to God in the clockwise direction. During normal days, the sattvic or divine vibrations from the God will be moving around in clockwise direction around his idol and hence waving mangal aarti in the clockwise direction to God yields immeasurably good results. On the day of Eclipse, the order changes and negative vibes will be flowing in clockwise movement around Gods Idol. At this time, the mangal aarti done to God in the usual clockwise direction will have a detrimental effect on the worshipper. This is as per the traditional beliefs.

Some of the Hindu devotees chant the Ashtakshara mantra of Krishna or Vishnu.

Ashtakshara mantra of Lord Krishna:

'Shri Krishna ha sharnam mama.'

Astakshari Mantra of Lord Vishnu:
'Om Namoh Narayan Ya namah.'

Mantras of Shiva

Shiva mantras are very powerful during the eclipse periods. You can choose to chant the Mahamrityunjay Mantra and Shiva Panchakshari Mantra during the solar eclipse period.

Shiva Panchakshari Mantra:
Om Namah Shivaya

Mahamrityunjay Mantra:
Om Tryambhakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat

The Santana Gopala Mantra:
Om Devaki Sudha Govinda Vasudeva Jagath Pathe Dehimey Thanayam Krishna Thwamaham Saranam Kadhahaa
Deva Deva Jagannatha Gothra Vridhi Karap Prabho Dehimey Thanayam Sheegram Ayushmandham Yashashreenam!

Surya Gayatri mantra gives a very good outcome if chanted during eclipse.
Lalita sahasranama, Vishnu Sahasranama, Aditya hrudayam, Vishnu ashtakshari mantras, Shiva Panchakshari mantras are to be chanted on this day for a totally auspicious effect and outcome.
