Shravani Mela 2023 has started today and it is during this time the importance of Babadham increases. It is during this time, lakhs of devotees throng Baba Baidyanath temple. This is known as the longest religious fair in the world.

The mela is organised on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, and it is that day when Lord Vishu is believed to go into Yog Nidra state in Ksheer Sagar for the next four months. It is during Lord Vishnu's absence, Lord Shiva takes charge of the responsibility as the protector of the Universe.

It starts with the month of Sawan which is the favourite month of Lord Shiva and it holds special significance for Shiva devotees. There is a belief that if the puja is done with devotion then one receives the choicest of blessings and it gets increased tenfold as well.

Temples dedicated to lord Shiva are decorated beautifully during this time and special melas or fairs are also organised to celebrate the month. These melas in Sawan are called 'Shravani Mela'.

Kanwar yatris walk 109 km up to Baba Baidyanath temple at Babadham and recite Bol Bam on the way. Most of them first visit Sultanganj, which is 105 km from Babadham. As the Ganges flows north from Sultanganj, this is the place from where devotees collect water in their Kanwar and then carry it on their shoulders.

After reaching Babadham they take a holy dip in the Shivaganga to purify themselves and then enter the temple where the Ganges water is offered to the Jyotirlingam. The duration of this pilgrimage lasts for a month or 30 days during July-August.

Usually the devotees of Lord Shiva throng these fairs. Most of the Kanwariyas are involved in this and come to Kanwar to collect the holy water of the Ganges. Let us see when Shravani Mela is starting and where Shravani Mela is organized in the country.

When Will Shravani Mela 2023 Start?

This year, Sawan 2023 will be very special. Due to the extra month, this time Sawan will be of 59 days. This year Shravani fair starts with the month of Sawan which is starting from 4 July 2023. Shravani Mela is in the first phase from 4 July to 17 July and Shravani Mela is in the second phase from August 17 to 31 August 2023.

1. Shravani Mela In Haridwar

In the month of Sawan, an army of Lord Shiva devotees reaches Haridwar. A big mela is organized here in Sawan. At the beginning of this month, Lord Shiva devotees start coming there.

2. Shravani Mela In Deoghar

The Shravani mela is held in Deoghar is famous not only in India but across the globe. An increase is being seen in the number of Shiva devotees coming here year after year. Reaching Deoghar is like a dream come true for Kanwar Yatris.

Kawar yatris reach Deoghar by taking water from the river Ganga in Sultanganj, Bihar and get the privilege of performing Jalabhishek of Baba Baidyanath. The Shravani fair held in Deoghar is included in the list of the biggest fairs.

3. Shravani Mela In Kashi Vishwanath

A big fair is also organized in Banaras of Uttar Pradesh in the month of Sawan. A large number of Shiva devotees and Kanwariyas come here from far and wide to have the darshan of Baba Vishwanath and seek his blessings.

4. Sawan Mela In Lakhimpur

Gokarnath of Gola situated in Lakhimpur-Kheeri is known as Chhoti Kashi. The shade here is unique in the month of Sawan. In the month of Shravan, a crowd of Kanwariyas and Lord Shiva devotees reach here.
