Religious texts like Puranas mention the importance of the month of Shravan as it is the perfect month for worshipping Lord Shiva. While the Mondays of this month are dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Tuesdays are dedicated to Goddess Parvati.

It is during this time, women pray, observe fast and follow rituals with utmost dedication for the welfare of their husbands, conjugal bliss, progeny, and prosperity in the month of Sawan or Shravan. Narada

Legend has it that Parvati was cursed by Shiva to come down to the earth as she had playfully closed his eyes and therefore, the entire world came to a standstill. In Mangadu, she performed penance by standing on one leg amid five types of fire to be reunited with Shiva.
