Rules To Follow If You Have Ganga Jal At Home
Ganga holds a sentimental and religious significance in the lives of Indians. Every Indian knows about the origin and significance of Ganga.
Women who are pure natured and of immaculate character, are often compared to Ganga, People compulsorily keep Ganga Jal in their homes. Any auspicious task calls for the usage of Ganga Jal.

When you sanctify the house, you need it. When you want to purify anything, you need it. After Grahana or eclipse concludes, you need to sprinkle Ganga Jal over the objects in the house to bring back their purity.
And last but not the least, we need it when someone breathes their last. The person who is in his final moments, needs to consume it along with Tulsi into his mouth so that he can reach Heaven and Vaikunta after death.
A dip in river Ganga, washes sins of past and present lifetimes and hence people on Ganga Dussehra gather near the bank of Ganga to have a holy dip. Devotees queue up to take the Ganga Jal home and keep it in their puja rooms. When these rules are not observed it results in domestic discord and unhappiness.
Vessel For Gangajal: There are some vessels which are considered important for puja and storing Ganga Jal. Plastic bottles are to be strictly avoided. Clay, brass, copper, and Silver are considered to be very pure as they are and are most ideal to hold the Ganga Jal inside them.
Any steel vessel from the kitchen would not just do. Kitchen is not as pure as puja room. All vessels made of pure metals are considered to be good for keeping Ganga Jal.
Keep It In A Clean Place: Keep it in a dark and clean place, as per the injunctions of Shastras. It is auspicious to do so. Ganga will be upset if it is kept in an open area where there is a lot of sunlight. Kitchen and bathroom should never be considered for storing and safekeeping Ganga Jal.
Otherwise, it will incur her wrath. Ganga is to be worshipped and hence it suits if you keep the Jal in the puja room. Keep Ganga Jal in the North east direction.
Keep The Area Clean: Do not keep Ganga Jal in a dirty place, for example, on the dining table, on the coffee table, near the place where soiled clothes are kept, and so on.
It should not be touched when you haven't yet bathed. It is very important to maintain cleanliness around the place where Ganga Jal is kept. Since it is difficult to maintain that level of cleanliness, it is best kept in the puja room or near the area of worship.
Do Not Consume Tamasic Food In Its Presence: Where ever you have placed Ganga Jal, tamasic foods should not be prepared nor eaten. Ganga is the symbol of purity and everything sattvic. So respect should be shown and the sanctity should be preserved at home where Ganga Jal has been kept.
We must not mix the mundane with the divine. Mixing the worldly with the Godly would not sound appropriate Let them remain where they are, and how they are. Committing these errors with Mother Ganga, will bring on her wrath. Avoid these mistakes while safekeeping Ganga Jal.
