Ramadan 2024: Why Is Taraweeh Prayer So Special? Can You Offer Taraweeh Prayers At Home?
Taraweeh prayer is a cherished ritual during Ramadan, offering a spiritual experience for Muslims around the world. With the sighting of the moon of Ramzan, the period of prayers also begins.
Offering prayers five times daily is a fundamental part of Islam and is mentioned in their Holy book Quran. In Islam, Namaz becomes obligatory for all those who believe in Allah and His Messenger, whether man or woman, poor or rich, it is necessary for all people to offer Namaz 5 times a day.

What
is
The
Taraweeh
Prayer?
As
a
Sunnah-e-Muwaqda
prayer,
Prophet
Muhammad
was
consistent
in
performing
it,
making
it
an
established
practice
during
the
holy
month
of
Ramadan.
Therefore,
apart
from
offering
5
prayers,
it
is
also
important
to
offer
Taraweeh
prayers
in
the
month
of
Ramadan.
This
prayer,
consisting
of
20
Rakats
performed
in
pairs
with
a
Salam
after
every
two,
becomes
a
nightly
devotion
after
the
Isha
prayer
throughout
Ramadan.
The practice of Taraweeh varies whether one is praying in a congregation or alone. For those praying behind an Imam, the Quran is recited throughout the prayer. Meanwhile, individuals praying at home typically recite ten Surahs from the 30th Para of the Quran across the Rakats. While Taraweeh is not obligatory, it is highly recommended, with men encouraged to join the congregation and women often praying at home.
How
Many
Rakats
Are
There
In
Taraweeh
Namaz?
Taraweeh
Namaz
is
offered
in
2
Rakats
each
for
20
Rakats
i.e.
Salam
is
offered
after
2
Rakats.
Similarly,
20
rak'ahs
of
Taraweeh
prayer
are
offered
with
2
rak'ahs
of
10
salams
each.
Taraweeh
namaz
is
offered
after
Isha
namaz
in
Ramadan.

How
Is
Taraweeh
Namaz
Read?
The
method
of
offering
Taraweeh
namaz
may
be
different.
If
you
are
praying
Taraweeh
behind
someone,
then
Quran
is
recited
in
this
namaz.
At
the
same
time,
if
you
read
Taraweeh
at
home,
then
10
surats
of
the
30th
Para
are
recited
in
two
Rakats
each.
When
Is
Taraweeh
Prayer
Offered?
(Taraweeh
Prayer
Time)
For
Muslims,
Taraweeh
prayer
is
a
Sunnah-e-Mawkqada
prayer.
In
Ramzan,
this
namaz
is
offered
at
the
time
of
Isha
namaz.
In
Taraweeh
Namaz,
there
is
a
tradition
of
reciting
Taraweeh
prayer
or
Tasbeeh
after
every
four
Rakaat
Namaz.
Is
Taraweeh
Prayer
Obligatory?
Taraweeh
Namaz
is
not
mandatory,
it
is
voluntary
(nafil)
night
prayer
which
is
performed
only
in
Ramadan.
This
one
is
highly
recommended
Sunnah,
and
therefore,
mosques
across
the
world
hold
congregational
Tarawih
prayers
on
every
nigh
of
this
blessed
month.
Can
We
Offer
Taraweeh
Prayers
At
Home?
It
is
better
for
men
to
offer
Taraweeh
Namaz
with
the
congregation,
but
if
for
some
reason
they
cannot
offer
it
in
the
mosque,
then
Taraweeh
Namaz
can
be
offered
at
home
also.
Women
offer
Taraweeh
prayers
at
home.
It
is
Sunnah
to
offer
Taraweeh
prayers
throughout
the
month
of
Ramadan
and
it
is
very
good
to
listen
to
the
complete
Quran
during
Taraweeh
prayers.
