There is a city called Kampilya, a gentleman and a Brahmin of religious nature who lived with his wife. The Brahmin family was very poor. Brahmin's wife was very sad due to poverty but never returned any beggar empty-handed from her door.
One day a Brahmin thought of going abroad to earn money but the wife asked him to be satisfied. One day sage Kaundilya arrived at their house, and a Brahmin couple honoured the sage and did good service. Pleased with this, the sage told the way to remove his poverty. The sage asked to fast on the Parma Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Adhik month. The sage told that Kubera, the god of wealth himself removes poverty when Lord Vishnu is pleased with the fast.
Then Brahmin couple fasted on Parama Ekadashi and worshipped Vishnu according to the rituals. By doing this his poverty went away. After dying together, both went to Vaikunth Lok. Lord Krishna told Arjuna that those who fast on Parma Ekadashi will definitely be blessed.
