This year Parma Ekadashi will be observed on Saturday, 12 August 2023. Ekadashi Tithi will start at 05.06 am on 11 August 2023, and end at 06.31 am on 12 August 2023. During this, the time of worship will be from 07.28 am to 09.07 am.

Parma Ekadashi 2023: History, Significance
Every three years, one more extra month is added to Hindu Calendar and that is known as Adhik Maas. Auspicious works are prohibited during this time and it is also known as Malmas. When Lord Krishna took Malmas under his control and became its master, it came to be known as Purushottam month. Therefore, when Ekadashi falls during Krishna Paksha of this Malmas or Purushottam month, it is known as Parama Ekadashi.

By observing an Ekadashi fast, one can get rid of sins and can achieve rare success. This Ekadashi is named Parama because of being the giver of the rarest achievements and provides one with a rare opportunity to get rid of sorrow and poverty and to get wealth and prosperity.

The fasting of Parma Ekadashi is very difficult as compared to other Ekadashis. This fast is observed for five days and is observed almost without water. Pancharatri fast is observed for these five days, that is, from Ekadashi to Amavasya, even water is discarded. Yes, Charanamrit offered to the Lord can be drunk. Rare achievements are achieved by performing difficult Parma Ekadashi.

On the day of Ekadashi, take a bath early in the morning and remember Lord Vishnu and take a vow of Ekadashi fast. Then observe fast for five days, on the fifth day the Brahmins should be fed and given alms.

According to a legend, it is Lord Krishna who narrated the story of Parama Ekadashi to Arjuna and here is how the story goes. In Kampilya Nagar, there lived a Brahmin named Sumedha who was very poor. His wife's name was Pavitra. Both were poor but used to worship and also used to donate as much as they could.

One day Maharishi Kaudinya came to his house. The couple served him. Pleased with the service, the sage told him that by performing Parma Ekadashi, his sorrows would go away. After this, the couple performed Parama Ekadashi and one day a prince came and pleased with their hospitality gave them a lot of money and all their sorrows were dispelled.
