How To Perform Lord Shiva Aarti?

Before embarking on the sacred journey of performing Lord Shiva Aarti, devotees need to meditate upon him and worship him with a serene mind and pure heart. Ancient Hindu scriptures have meticulously outlined the powerful ways and rules that must be adhered to during worship. Despite the profundity of these traditions, many remain unaware of the conventional methods prescribed for worshipping Lord Shiva.

The process begins with taking a bath, signifying the purification of the body and soul, followed by sitting in front of the picture of Lord Shiva or a Shivling. The ritual encompasses several steps starting with Dhyanam, where devotees hold flowers in their hands and meditate upon Shiva, moving towards Avahana, reciting the Maha Mrityunjay Mantra or Shiva Beej Mantra to invoke Lord Shiva's presence.

As the ritual progresses, devotees offer a new cloth to Lord Shiva (Asana), followed by offering clean water (Aachamana). The Snana step involves pouring water, curd, ghee, milk, sugar, and Panchamruth on the idol, succeeded by the offering of new clothes, perfume, sandal powder, akshat, garland, and flowers (Vastra).

Further steps include offering janeu (Yajnopavita), lighting incense sticks (Dhoopam), and a Diya with pure ghee (Deepam). Devotees then offer fruits and sweets (Naivedyam), betel nuts and leaves (Tamboolam), and Dakshina with a coconut. The culmination of the ritual is marked by reciting the Shiva Aarti, after which it is crucial to ask for forgiveness.
