People of all religious faiths visit this temple of Durga who was worshipped as Maharagnyi Devi in the early TretaYuga. Maharagnyi means the queen, the empress. This temple is right in the middle of a pool that is bordered by a huge stone. There is a lot to know about his Pool as well.

The goddess here is known as Kheer Bhavani because Kheer is offered as prasad in the spring season. She is also known as Maharagya Devi, Ragya Devi, Rajni Devi Temple and Rajya Bhavani Devi.

She is immensely revered by the Hindus here. A kuldevta of pundits, she is worshipped by them for protection. Every Ashtami of Jyeshta month, a grand fair is organized.

Kashmiri Hindus rely on the Kheer Bhavani Devi for their survival and existence. This is possibly one of the oldest temples that was renovated time and again to be accessible in the present shape. Rana Pratap Singh renovated this temple during his reign.

This was a Goddess that was present during the times of Ramayana, in the palace of Ravana, the King of Lanka who was a die hard devotee of Lord Shiva and Bhawani Mata.

He Had pleased Mata with his tough Tapasya and always had her support and blessings in any venture he took up. All the good will and blessings from Mata stopped the day Ravana abducted Sita.

Livid and furious with rage, Goddess left the palace with the help of Hanuman to settle in Kashmir as a family deity of the inhabitants there. Mother has permanently settled in Kashmir. After Maharana Pratap, it was renovated by Maharaja Hari Singh.

The Mystic Pool That Works Miracles: The pool which surrounds this temple is by itself a miracle. It is hailed as a wonderful Kund. Whenever there is a war in Kashmir, this pool turns red in colour.

When there is a disaster or a natural calamity, the water of this river turns black. For instance, there was a flood in 2014 in Kashmir where even before it occurred, the water of the Pool of Bhawani Ma had turned black.

In 1886 when Walter Lawrence visited this place, as a commissioner for land, the water in the pool turned violet. When the Kargil war had broken out, the pool had turned red in colour.

When the water shows green colour, it is a sign of prosperity for the land. It actually did turn green when the article 370 was abrogated.

Few decades ago, when this Mata was being worshipped regularly, the Kashmiri Hindus were in prominence in every way. However, when there occurred a huge flood in Kashmir due to which the pool had totally submerged in water,

The Yogi Krishna Pandit of Kashmir was instructed in a dream by Bhawani, to set up large poles and Mata would emerge in the form of a serpent.

The flood cleared and the devi temple emerged.Maa Bhawani is known to be pleased with just an offering of Kheer and an earnest prayer and grants all wishes to her devotees.
