Jitiya Vrat 2023: Know The Significance Of Vrat Katha Which Is About Protection And Bravery
Jitiya Vrat Katha: Jitiya Vrat is also known as Jivitputrika Vrat and a day on which fasting is observed by mothers for the well-being and long life of children. It falls every year on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month, which is usually from September to October. On this day, mothers observe Nirjala fast for the safety and happy life of their children.
This year this festival will be celebrated on 6 October 2023. Also, there is a belief that by completing this fast, the child gets the protection of Lord Krishna. Along with completing this fast with strict rituals, it is important to listen to the story of Jitiya Vrat.

According
to
a
legend,
there
was
Prince
Jimutvahana
of
Gandharvas,
who
was
known
for
his
philanthropic
work
and
bravery.
Once
Jimutavahana's
father
handed
over
the
responsibility
of
the
throne
to
him
and
went
to
the
forest
for
penance.
But
Jimutvahan
was
not
interested
in
politics.
For this reason, he handed over the responsibility of ruling the kingdom to his brothers and went to his father to serve him. There in the forest, Jimutavahana got married to a girl named Malayavati.
One day while traveling in the forest, he met an old woman who belonged to the Naga dynasty. The old woman appeared very worried and scared. Seeing his condition, Jimutvahan asked him about his problem. Then the old woman said that the snakes had given a promise to the bird king Garuda that they would give him one snake every day as his food.
The woman cried and told that she had a son, whose name was Shankhchud as the son had to go to the bird king Garuda as food. Seeing the condition of the old lady, Jimutvahana assured her that he would protect her son's life. As per the promise, Jimutavahana appeared before the bird king Garuda and Garuda caught him in his claws and took him away as food.
During that time they heard the groaning sound of Jimutavahana and they stopped on a mountain, where Jimutavahana told them the whole incident.
King of birds Garuda was pleased to see the courage and charity of Jimutvahana, due to which he sacrificed his life. He also assured me that now he will not make any snake his food. Since then, on the day of Jivitputrika Vrat, there is a tradition of worshiping Jimutavahana for the protection and progress of children, which people today also know as Jitiya Vrat.
