Jitiya Vrat 2023: This day is also known as Jivitputrika Vrat and is a day on which fasting is observed by mothers for the well-being and long life of their children. This day is celebrated particularly in northern parts of India- Bihar, Jharkhand, parts of Uttar Pradesh, and other areas with slight variations in customs and rituals.
It falls every year on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month, which is usually from September to October. On this day, mothers observe Nirjala fast for the safety and happy life of their children. Let us know more about this day.

This year there will be two auspicious yogas on Jitiya Vrat- Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga and Parigha Yoga. Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga will form from 09:32 pm till 06:17 am on 7 October 2023, the day of Parana. Whereas Parigh Yoga is from morning till 05.31 am of the next day. On the day of fasting, Ardra Nakshatra will be from morning till 09.32 pm, after that it is Punarvasu Nakshatra.
The auspicious time of puja for Jitiya Vrat on 6th October is from 06:00 am to 10:41 am. In this, the Chara-Samanva Muhurta is from 06:16 am to 07:45 am. After that, the profit-progress Muhurta is from 07:45 am to 09:13 am. Amrit-Sarvattam Muhurat is from 09:13 am to 10:41 am. Abhijit Muhurta of that day is from 11:46 am to 12:33 pm.

The
term
"Jitiya" is
derived
from
"Jivit,"
which
means
life,
and
"Putrika,"
which
means
daughter.
On
this
day,
the
process
of
Nirjala
vrat
or
waterless
fast
starts
early
in
the
morning
followed
by
a
bath
to
cleanse
themselves.
Lord
Surya
or
Sun
is
worshipped
and
then
bhog
is
prepared.
Along
with
this,
aarti
is
performed
with
candles,
incense,
and
other
auspicious
puja
samagri.
Clay
and
cow
dung
are
also
used
to
create
statues
of
eagle
and
lion.
Then
rice,
flowers,
incense
sticks,
and
diyas
are
kept
in
front
of
the
idol.

On
this
day,
a
mother's
deep
love
and
concern
for
the
health,
happiness,
and
longevity
of
her
children.
Mothers
fast
and
perform
rituals
on
this
day
to
seek
the
blessings
of
Lord
Vishnu
and
Goddess
Parvati
for
the
well-being,
prosperity,
and
protection
of
their
kids.
Also,
there
is
a
belief
that
children
who
observe
Jitiya
Vrat
enjoy
prosperity,
pleasure
and
a
long
life.
During Jitiya Vrat, vrat katha is recited. According to a story, Gandharva King Jimutavahana is worshiped because he had protected the sons of Nagmata from Garud. Also, mothers pray to Jimutvahan for the safety of their children, freedom from all troubles, and happiness.
