Rules And Restrictions

Do not carry big pots if you have a health condition that does not allow it. To save extra commute inside Puri Dham, book your stay in the nearby hotels.

3. On the Rath Yatra day, be sure to reach the temple before 6-7 am. The ceremony namely pahandi starts wherein the pujari carries Jagannath from the Sannidhi or Altar to the Ratha. This starts at 7 am and Jagannatha wearing a Tiara is made to dance inside the temple before he leaves towards the Ratha. There is a ticket fro this too. Just book it a day before by paying 500 rupees. It is really worth paying.

4. Arrange a Tam Tam or auto that can house a crowd of 8 people and visit all the Vaishnava kshetras in Puri. There are eight such spots. Per person the fare in the auto is 250.
At each spot, it is a better option to sit for 10 minutes and chant one rosary. Take this tour on the second or the third day. Totally this will take you 5-6 hours of journey inside Puri Dham,
Don'ts:

1. Eat at the nearest bhojanayala every time. Do not book in one particular hotel because Puri is so big that you have walk so much from place to place. Booking in one hotel, means you will have to walk back to that hotel, all the way, finish your food and come back to your current place of interest by walking the same distance. It just wastes your time and hence always have food in a nearby café.

2. the thieves know that the travellers carry their money in the zipper pocket bead bag and hence they have learnt to steal even this.
3. Don't carry the rosary bag for rath yatra. In case you are carrying it, keep it safe in the hotel room. In the crowd of 25 lakh people we may lose it or some interested person may whisk it off from your bag.

4. Don't pull rath on the first day as there will be about 20 lakh people wherein many people die of stampede. Second day many of them leave Puri.
So even on the second day, it is slightly difficult but you can manage. Expect to be punched and pushed.Do not step on the yamraj step after completing the temple parikraman, while going out of temple.

Any one who steps on this step, will lose all his punya karmas and the old kamas will come back again.
