Jagannath Rath Yatra 2023: Day-Wise Schedule, All You Need To Know

Rath Yatra is organised every year at the famous Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha and on this day, Lord Jagannatha is worshipped by the deities along with his brother Balabhadra and his sister Devi Subhadra. This day is based on the Hindu Lunar Calendar and is observed on Dwitiya Tithi during Shukla Paksha of Ashada month. As per the Gregorian Calendar, it usually falls in the month of June or July.

This year will mark 145th Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra officially began today in Puri and people from all over the world take part in the celebrations. Devotees, mostly followers of Lord Krishna draw the rath(chariot) and this is considered as a devotional act.

Rath Yatra 2023: Day-Wise Schedule

Ratha Yatra will take place on 20 June 2023. The Dwitiya Tithi begins at 11:25 am on 19 June 2023 and Dwitiya Tithi ends at 01:07 pm on 20 June 2023. Lord Jagannath will be taken out for the Ratha yatra on Tuesday, 20 June 2023 and this procession will start at 10.04 pm on this day. It will end on Saturday, 01 July 2023. The festival goes on for 10 days, and accordingly, special rituals are also associated with them.

Jagannath Rath Yatra 2023: Day-Wise Schedule

1. June 20, 2023 (Tuesday): Rath Yatra will begin on this day. On this day, the custom of going to the Gundicha temple is done.)
2. June 24, 2023 (Saturday): Hera Panchami (During the initial five days, Lord Jagannath is enthroned in the Gundicha shrine.)
3. June 27, 2023 (Tuesday): Sandhya Darshan (This is the evening visit to the Trinity and the last chance to seek blessings of the divine sibling deities in Shri Gundicha Temple.)
4. June 28, 2023 (Wednesday): Bahuda Yatra (Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings, sister Subhadra and brother Balabhadra will return home.)
5. June 29, 2023 (Thursday): Suna Besa (Lord Jagannath along with his siblings go back to his residence and they are also adorned with gold jewellery on this day.)
6. June 30, 2023 (Friday): Aadhar Pana ritual (It means a sweet drink that is offered to the deities, and the servitors wittingly smash the pots so that the drinks spill over the chariots)
7. July 1, 2023: Neeladri BJ ( During this ritual, the brothers and sisters were entered into the sanctum sanctorum of 'Goti Pahari')

People are immersed in devotion and rituals associated with the festival. On the last day, Lord Jagannath along with his siblings return to his main abode just before Devshayani Ekadashi, and then Lord Jagannatha goes to sleep for four months.
