How To Light A Ghee Diya And Why?
Lighting a Ghee diya during puja is a very popular practice amongst devout Hindu folk.
Desi ghee is always considered superior because it is sattvic and hence brings positive energy around.

What is most important is that they remove negative energy from the atmosphere as well as eliminate vaastu doshas.
The fire that emits from the lamp not only purifies nourishes and heals the atmosphere, it acts as an insect repellent for your home.
Lamps lit at Sandhya times, that is, sunrise and sunset are especially favourable for healing. The lamp emits an appealing odour and hence nullifies any other foul odour in the house.
The sattvic effect of lit lamps is felt after hours of its use. It represents the victory of good over evil in your life as well. Health and wealth is a divine gift that we get as a result of using the lamp.

How To Light The Diya: After Lakshmi puja, light the diyas as a gesture of welcoming her home. Light the first lamp in the puja Mandir.
Tulsi is associated with Goddess Lakshmi. Hence near the Tulsi plant, diyas must be lit. If there is no tulsi plant, place diyas in the kitchen.
Directions For Placing The DIyas: Keeping diyas in the north or north east direction, you will gain wealth and affluence.
If you want to improve your health, place the diya in the east direction. If diseases, negativity and poverty are bothering you, place diyas near water containers.
Let your home be always well lit so that Goddess Lakshmi would visit it often. Keep diyas lit throughout night so that negativity is repelled from your home.
Brass or clay diyas are always ideal to be used for the lamps as they attract positivity. Clay is a storehouse of benevolent spirits. Brass and clay diyas lit together bring the happiness and peace.
Which Oil Should Be Avoided For Puja: Using ghee for lighting your lamp is better always because it is more divine than the oil.
Ghee attracts sattvic vibrations and spread cheer throughout your house. Cow ghee should be chosen for lighting the diya as it is the best option. Avoid sunflower oil for lamps.
Puffed Wicks And Straight Wicks: Puffed wicks should not be chosen over the straight wicks.
Straight wicks attract sattvic deities whereas puffed wicks attract kshudra devatas or the deities that belong to the inferior realm.
The straight wick fills cheer and positivity in the mind of the worshipper.
