Hindus have expressed unity in diversity and have widely different religious beliefs that stick together under one religious' roof. Some communities have a marked preference for Lord Vishnu whereas some others are ardent devotees of Lord Shiva.

Some communities even worship ideal women from epics, for example, Draupadi. The learned say that we should select from the three categories of Gods for worship.

Ishtadevta is the God who has chosen you to worship him or her. A particular Gods preference to you can be known from various indications that the deity sends to you.

This happens as the result of the Tapasya of several lifetimes. If you prefer to have Lord Srinivasa as an ishtadevta, you should be first initiated to this God by a Guru so that you can begin your Tapasya.

Kuldevta is the God your family has been worshipping from several generations down the line. It could be called a family deity.

However, along with the idols of chosen Gods, you need to have a few god idols compulsorily as they are sattvic gods and generally bless any sattvic effort with success.

Having these idols will bring peace and prosperity to your house. Do you know who are these deities? Let us take a look.

One more point to be remembered is that every God inside your puja mandir should be consecrated before worshipping. This will assure a pleasant domestic atmosphere without strife.

Kubera and Lakshmi: Keep the idol or photo of Kubera Lakshmi seen in a sitting position as it doubles the peace and prosperity of the house. Otherwise, we must not keep Kuber Lakshmi in the puja mandir, as per learned sources.

Krishna Idol: Either keep a bala krishna or a standing idols of RadhaKrishna at you puja mandir as they bless prosperity to the house they are consecrated in.

Ganesha Idol: A saffrom or yellow coloured Ganesha is a must have for your puja room. Some people worship Vishwaksena instead of Ganesha.

But mostly it is Ganesha who is the destroyer of all impediments and worshipped widely all over India. It is highly auspicious to have dancing Ganapati idol in the puja room as it shows him in a pleasant mood and he works as a lucky mascot.

Hanuman Idol: Keep the photo of the Hanuman carrying the mountain, as it emits auspicious vibrations and sanctifies the surroundings it is placed in. It is a symbol of protection to the family members.

Idols of Ram and Sita: Having idols of Ram, Sita, Lakshmana, in your puja mandir increases the love between family members and all your pending tasks get completed soon

Do not install god's idol on the floor of the puja room. They should be placed on a chowki over which you spread a yellow or red cloth and then installed.

Vishnu Idol: Always Vishnu should not be worshipped alone. Of course, in Tirupati, the idol of Venkateshwara (lord Vishnu's avatar) is alone and without consort idols that are separately installed.

Divine plans are never understood or known. But Lord Vishnu should be accompanied by Lakshmi his consort always and worshipped together. Lakshmi is bound to bestow prosperity and wealth.
