Garuda Purana Teachings: Avoid These Deeds If You Want A Better Life In Your Next Birth
Garuda Purana is a book that is read in houses where mourning is being observed and the shastras say that this book has to be read only when there is an occurrence of death in the family. Let us read what it says about reincarnation.

Moreover, reading this book at home, is also a part of funeral rituals. It is found in the houses of most Vaishnavaites. All information about birth, death, heaven and hell, and also the right and wrong deeds that should be or shouldn't be done are provided here.
Reincarnation is also discussed in detail. Originally this book is known to be a conversation between Garuda and Lord Vishnu on the topic of life after death. The form that we take after death and how we get those forms are the themes of this conversation.
We are a sumtotal and a byproduct of our karmas. The reasons for the suffering or enjoyment of our present janma is due to the deeds of our past births.
As per Krishna the state of mind of a human being during his final moments will decide his character in his next birth. If a person passes away peacefully, he will be a spiritually inclined person in his next birth.
But there are more to this than what we can think of. Let us learn about the mysteries associated with the next birth according to the Garuda Purana.
As per Garuda Purana, the next destination of the person who murders a woman or gets the unborn female baby aborted, will be hell and the birth thereafter will be that of a chandala janma. Murder of an animal or a human being shows a ruthless instinct which only a hard-hearted undertaker could have,
Those who are a source of trouble to their parents or their own children, cannot get a human birth on earth in the next sojourn. They will be aborted while still lying in the mother's womb. Probably these people do not understand how to live and let other live. So, they do not get a chance to live a life, probably according to the shastras.
Garuda purana is in favour of women when it states that a person who exploits a woman or puts a woman to undue suffering, suffers from physical pain and diseases unheard of in his next janma. All these punishments clearly mentioned in the puranas, have created a fear in people's minds and inspired them to respect women.

They will thereafter get a birth of brahma rakshsasa who will forever be thirsty without a drop of water to drink. Guru is to be seen as God as he is equal to a God for a student. Here the purana refers to the acharyas or the traditional gurus who teach the vidya of spirituality and philosophy.
Teachers of the modern era deserve respect but they are not to be treated as acharyas who taught the brahma vidya or art of self-realization in the past.
Those who deceive others in any kind of deal, and those lie to others in order to cheat them, would be born as owls. Those who provide wrong unjust witness to a case in court also meet the same fate.
In the Janma next to this, they will be born blind. Betraying the trust that others have in you is something you should not do. Scriptures say " if you do not want something to happen to you, do not do that to others because karma comes back manifold.."
Those who rob, kill, or hunt animals, would be born as goats that die in a butcher's hands. Karma comes around. They will have to go through the same experience what they meted out to others in the following janma otherwise the karma can't be got over with, as per scriptures,
