Ganga Jal or water of the Ganges is considered as auspicious for use in all religious rituals. Lord Shiva is worshipped with Ganga Jal in Saawn. For all rites, from good to the bad, Ganga Jal is used. Ganga Jal, poured into the mouth of a dying person is known to liberate him from the cycle of life and death. Since Goddess Ganga arrived on the Saptami tithi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakha month, the day is celebrated as Ganga Saptami.

Holy dip is taken on the day of Ganga Saptami. A holy dip ensures relief from diseases and the mistakes of the person is forgiven. Ganga Saptami is celebrated on 27 April.

Saptami Tithi will start at 11.27 am on 26 April and will close on 27 April at 1.38 pm. Ganga Saptami will be celebrated on 27 April.

Ganga Saptami 2023 Muhurta For Worship

Worship conducted between 05.02 in the wee hours of the morning to 11.59 in the noon time is ideal for Ganga Worship. Time for Ganga Bath is between 12 noon to 1.50 pm on 27 April. One should chant the mantra of Ganga and then bathe in the water to which few drops of Ganga Jal should be added.

As Goddess Ganga descended down to earth responding to the prayers of Bhagirath, her raging torrents could not be controlled. So Lord Shiva arrested her in his matted locks and released her after Sage Bhagirathas request. As she flowed on the land, again her torrents swept away Janhu Maharshis ashram which is why the angry Janhu drank Ganga in one gulp. He later released her from his ear. Since Ganga was born out of his ear, she came to be called Janhavi.

Ganga Saptami 2023 : Religious Significance

Holy dip in Ganga relieves one from diseases, sorrow and poverty and accords salvation. While taking bath in the Ganges one must offer Arghya to God. Then Ganga should be sprinkled on the head once the holy bath is completed.
