Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a significant Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity known for his wisdom, prosperity, and the removal of obstacles.

Parvati's intent was to have a loyal guardian for her privacy. She placed Ganesha at the entrance of her bathing chamber, instructing him to allow no one to enter. When Lord Shiva, her husband, arrived and was stopped by Ganesha, he was unaware of who this new guardian was. In his anger, Shiva tried to enter, but Ganesha, steadfast in his duty, refused to let him pass.

The confrontation between Shiva and Ganesha became intense, leading to Shiva ordering his followers to remove Ganesha forcibly. In the ensuing battle, Shiva's temper flared, and he ordered his followers to decapitate the figure blocking his entry. Parvati, upon learning of this, was heartbroken and demanded that Ganesha be revived.

Realizing his mistake and deeply remorseful, Shiva sent his followers to find the head of the first creature they encountered, which happened to be an elephant. They placed the elephant's head on Ganesha's body, and thus, Lord Ganesha was resurrected with the elephant's head. Parvati was overjoyed, and Shiva bestowed upon Ganesha the position of the leader of his Ganas (divine attendants) and declared him the remover of obstacles.
