Mahashivratri 2023 : Important Mantras To Chant On This Day

mahashivratri

Maha Shivaratri literally means 'The Greatest Night of Shiva' on which Lord Shiva danced the cosmic dance form of Shiva Tandav. This was the day of the divine communion between Lord Shiva and Parvati. Maha Shivratri is celebrated in the Hindu month of Phalguna and this time it arrives on 18 February 2023 on Saturday. Planetary configurations are powerful enough to invoke a new upsurge of energy in the devotees whose senses are revitalized after the Jagran is over.

Maha Shivratri arrives a night before Amavasya. Moon's impact is at the barest minimum on the 14th lunar night and hence it is a good time to look within and spend the time on introspection. When the mental energy is directed inwards, mind calm down and settles us in a divine connection with Lord Shiva.

Of all the tridoshas, namely pitta, Kapha and Vata, it is the person with Vata impeccably balanced., who is able to remain healthy. An imbalance in Vata leads to diseases, as per Ayurveda. Mahashivaratri has this power to balance the Vata element in the body. Seated in padmasana, with an upright spine, one must perform Anulom Vilom Pranayam as it helps control the Vata dosha. This pranayama is a gateway to connect with the supreme in devoted surrender.
