Holashtak 2023: Inauspicious Effects And Dos And Donts

The entire nation is busy neck deep with the preparations for the festival of colours, that is Holi, which is due to arrive on 08 March 2023. The time period between Phalgun Shukla Ashtami and Holika Dahan is known as Holashtak. This year, Holashtak will begin on the third of March and remain valid until the ninth of March. Performing of any auspicious activity is barred during this period.
Wood pieces, twigs of branches among other things are gathered together to prepare for the Holika Dahan. Apart from Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva is also worshipped during this period. It is an inauspicioius period to do good deeds because the Hiranya Kashipu conducted several attempts on the life of his own son, Prahlad during these eight days. It was the most tortuous patch in the life of Prahlad. The day the atrocities began on Prahlad happened to be the Shukla Paksha's Ashtami Tithi of Phalgun month
During these eight days of Holashtak, each planet emits fiery vibrations and hence deemed most inauspicious for sacred events/ But there is an exemption for birth and death ceremonies as these are not touched by the Holashtak vibes.
This 8-day period is the most powerful patch in which meditation and austerities done will yield the maximum results. On this day, the tradition is to cut a twig from a tree and place it on the ground. Then it is covered with colourful clothes because this is considered to represent Prahlad.
