Goddess Annapoorna Devi And Akshaya Tritiya

Akshaya Tritiya is a day on which the Hindus all around the world pray to their favourite deity for prosperity and wealth. This is very auspicious for the Hindu community. The very name 'Akshaya Tritiya' represents the endlessness and vastness of the day's holiness.
It is believed that this day is so auspicious that anything that is done on this day cannot give bad results. The benefits of doing a good deed on this day are immense. Poojas and havans done on this day reap tenfold result for the devotee. Buying gold, new house, plots of land and vehicles are considered to be very auspicious.

There are many stories that demonstrate the auspiciousness of the day. It is said that the Lord of wealth, Kubera, was reinstated as the treasurer of the heaven by worshipping Goddess Lakshmi on this day.

He also was rewarded with an infinite measure of wealth. Another story has it that Lord Krishna blessed his friend Sudama with wealth and prosperity in return for a couple handfuls of flattened rice. This happened on the day of Akshaya Tritiya.
There is a story from Mahabharata that occurred on Akshaya Tritiya too. The Kauravas committed the blasphemy of disrobing their sister-in-law Draupadi in a full court. Draupadi was a devotee of Lord Krishna and called out for his help. Lord Krishna helped her with an endless saree that could not be removed. It was this incident that sealed the fate of the Kauravas. They were eventually destroyed in the war of Kurukshetra.
One of the legends that is associated with the holiness of Akshaya Tritiya is the birth of Goddess Annapoorna Devi.
Annapoorna Devi is a form of Goddess Parvati. She is the Goddess of nourishment and food. It is said that Goddess Annapoorna was born on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. It is therefore important that we remember Goddess Annapoorna on this Akshaya Tritiya day.

The story of Goddess Annapoorna begins with Lord Shiva saying that the material world is only 'Maya' or an illusion. His spouse, Goddess Parvati couldn't agree to this and an argument ensued. To prove her point, Goddess disappeared and the whole world went into chaos. Without Goddess Parvati, the world was left without the energy to fuel it. There was a wide-spread famine. People couldn't find food for days and suffered a lot because of this.

Goddess Parvati couldn't see her children suffer. So, she appeared as Goddess Annapoorna and set up a kitchen in Kashi. Lord Shiva was very hungry by this time. He rushed to Kashi when he learnt about Goddess Annapoorna's appearance. He begged the Goddess for some food and said that he had now understood that the material world is just as important as the spiritual world is. Goddess Anapoorna forgave Lord Shiva and fed him with her own hands.

Annapoorna Mantra and Annapoorna Gayatri Mantra are two mantras that help in attaining prosperity. People who are undernourished or malnourished should chant these mantras. Parents who have children who are underweight or malnourished can also chant these mantras. If you have kids who do not eat enough or are very picky, these mantras are sure to help you.
