‘Sunder Dooj’ Festival'-To Look Beautiful

The banks of Yamuna was crowded by women to celebrate Sunder Dooj festival, on 23rd November, with the view to gain beauty in their next birth.
Women apply clean their body with stuffs that tradition has passed down and take a dip in the holy waters of Yamuna, on Sunder Dooj festival, in order to look beautiful (in their next birth)
Women chant hymns while they apply chickpea flour and curd on their body. Rituals are also conducted on the river bank.
“On this day people become beautiful for the entire life by applying chickpea flour and curd on their body and taking bath in river," said Seema, a devotee.
Deepa, another devotee who is seeking beauty in her next life said: “I am here to take bath because I am not beautiful in this birth but after taking bath today, I will become beautiful in my next birth."
A priest Acharya Ganesh Prasad Mishra said it was a centuries-old tradition in the region.
