Vaikunta Loka: The Physical Description And Spiritual Symbolism

Vaikunta

Vaikunta is a loka of idyllic bliss and a personal abode of Sri Maha Vishnu in which ignorance does not enter in any form. Father time has not impact on the ongoings of the Vaikunta loka. It is known to be beyond all orientations of time and the eternal cycle of birth and death. Punya, papa, and karma do not have an impact on its inhabitants. The description of Vaikunta can be found In Srimad Bhagavatam which is looked at with sheer amazement and wonder. What we realise is that this realm is more resplendent than all heavens put together and only those who have liberated themselves from the earthly shackles will make it to Vaikunta.

Spiritual Reality Of Vaikunta Loka

The Vaikunta or the transcendental kingdom of God, is known to be thrice the size of all universes put together. Millions of universes, when combined measure up to only a quarter portion of the entire creation. There is another sky which is spiritual and consists of all spiritual lokas namely Vaikunta and they measure up to three fourths of the entire creation. The beings of Vaikunta are entirely devoid of Kama and moha, two of the arishadvargas. These beings are also free from dukkha or sorrow or desires. Virtues in the material world are corrupted by the touch of ignorance but in Vaikunta it is hundred percent untouched by the above mundane qualities. Vaikunta is where those who attained liberation will reside permanently. Vaikunta is composed of sheer Satvam virtue, and is luminous on its own without the aid of an external light. A light of golden hue pervades the entire expanse.

Physical Description Of Vaikunta

A large twelve storey golden temple exists in this spiritual world that equals a thousand suns in its glow and brightness. This golden temple has windows and pillars made of gold studded with precious stones. Golden lotuses in nectar filled rivers form a part of the landscape of this world. Inside the temple, Lord Vishnu resides with his divine consorts. The temple has other inhabitants, who have attained moksha due to God's grace. The forests here abound with wish fulfilling trees, and bear fruits and flowers in all seasons. The inhabitants, fly in planes made of precious metals and gemstones, accompanied by their wives and consorts, to extol the qualities of the Lord. The birds of Vaikunta stop singing and hear, in a mesmerized state when Lord's glories are being sung there in Vaikunta. While singing Lords glory, they ignore the lovely fragrance emanating from the Madhavi floral blossoms that are laden with honey in this world.

When the king of bees hums the stories and leelas of God, all other animals and birds in the loka stop and listen to it with great devotion. Despite the presence of fragrant blossoms of Mandara, Kuravaka, Champaka Bakula and Parijata enchant the people here, there is nothing to beat the purity of Tulsi which Lord Prefers to wear in his garland. The ladies here resemble Lakshmi in their appearance as they have attained Sayujya with the Lord and Goddess, and are most charming when it comes to looks and charm. They touch the marble walls of Lords Temple occasionally to receive his blessings on them.

Spiritual Symbolism Of Vaikunta

The transcendental qualities are not attained by the non-believers. In the Padma Purana, Uttara-khanda, it is said that the between the material and the spiritual world, exists the Viraja River, and beyond it is the perspiration of the lord that flows as a powerfully divine stream which is where the three fourth of God's creation, exists. The living conditions are at the level of perfection, as everything here is permanent in nature, everlasting, unlimited and non-perishable. There is no past, no present and no future that defines the life of the entities in this world. The entities here are forever united with each other and are not separated from each other at any time. Lord is the chief entity here. The inhabitants of Vaikunta can travel anywhere within the unlimited regions of Vaikunta which does not have a beginning or end to it. It is beyond the concept of time.

This world is not corrupted by the element of illusion of Maya that holds the earthly universe in place. Everyone in Vaikunta is a follower of the Lord. There is no competition between the beings and look up to the Lord for satisfying their needs. The entities here live in utmost glory with a mindset that is totally devoid of all arishadvargas, wants and needs. They are primarily focused on serving the Lord at all times in Vaikunta.
