North And South Karnataka

The main task for Ugadi day for the people of North Karnataka, farmers plough their lands. This event is known as Gale hodeyuvudu. South kanara people on the other hand celebrate three days of Ugadi, the first day is called Musure habba, the next day is referred to as sihi aduge wherein bevu bella or Ugadi pachadi is distributed. Final day or the third day is called Hosataduku wherein nonvegetarian food is consumed. Hunting is a popular practice that is observed on this day.

Shettikere Village In Tumkur

Shettikere village in Tumkur has another interesting story to tell. Different varieties of grains of crops is poured into a mud pot. Cattle tied to a plough gives it a hard knock and the grains scatter in different directions. The particular grain that scatters at the farthest distance is considered to be the lucky crop for that year.

Also in another method, they fill a bamboo basket called Jagara that is filled with Cow dung and soil and sow nine different crops.
