The Rules And Rituals Of Purashcharan, The Extended Mantra Meditation Practice

sadhu

A purashcharan is a mantra recitation practice that is extended. It involves recitation of a mantra as many lakhs (100,000) times as there are syllables in the mantra. Purashcharan of a mantra is different from just chanting the mantra. The mantra for which purashcharan is done, yields very quick results. Through the general mantra prayog, most of your wishes may be fulfilled. But mantra purascharan will get all your desires fulfilled. Mantra siddhi and purashcharan are not always the same.

Purashcharan is done either for spiritual progress or fulfilment of a material wish. E.g., For example, The Narasimha shlokatmak mantra with the samput of Hreem has mantra siddhi requirement of 320,000 while purushcharan requirement is of 32 lacs.

Purashcharan involves five rituals doing which the mantra awakens, gets activated and works after completing the number of chanting of the mantra. The number of times a mantra is to be chanted depends on the number of syllables in the mantra. Om and Namah are not counted. Sit in a comfortable posture but keep your spine straight and relaxed during japa.

The five aspects of purashcharan are japa, havan, tarpana, marjana and brahmana bhojana.

1. Japa - as many lakh recitations as there are syllables in the mantra being chanted (as described above)
2. Havan/Homam - fire offering with mantra. Number of mantra recitation needs to be 1/10th the number of japa.
3. Tarpana- water offering with mantra. Number of mantra recitation needs to be 1/10th the number of that done with havan
4. Marjana- water sprinking. Number of mantra recitation is 1/10th the number done with tarpana
5. Brahmin Bhojana should be conducted

According to Swami Sivananda, if havan, tarpan and marjan cannot be done due to some reasons, then extra 10% japa of the original purascharana can be done and then brahmana bhojan can be done.

There are certain rules and regulations that make purascharan a success.

1. Decide how many repetitions of the mantra you intend to do per day. Stick to it without fail. Even if you are unable to complete the intended number of repetitions for the day, just chant at least a few times as purashcharan can't be discontinued even for a day. Try to do the same number of repetitions every day and do not take break in daily japa at any cost. Try to do japa at the same place and same time daily. If you cannot, keep doing the sadhana without stopping it.

2. The mantra which you received in dreams can be chanted as and when you like..

3. To get success in purashcharan, sadhak must never take any loan from the guru and he should sincerely believe that his guru is immortal.

4. Mantras should be chosen with ultimate care and caution. Wrong mantras chosen will cause great harm than any good.

5. If, the Sadhak stops a mantra sadhana or a purushcharan, he incurs great sin.

6. The mantra diksha taken from a woman guru bears quicker outcome.

7. Shreem Mantra, Pranav, Vedic Gayatri Mantra must never be chanted by a woman.

8. There are many restrictions for choosing a mantra to chant.. but Gayatri Mantra of any god can be chanted by anyone. You must not chant a mantra without being initiated by a Guru, as a mantra without Diksha, if uttered, makes the mantra deity angry and he will leave the seeker. The person who chooses his mantra from a book, loses his intelligence and becomes stupid.

9. You should fast for a day just before the diksha process starts. Otherwise, the one who fasts on the day of diksha is destined to go to hell.

The sadhak who does avahan of one God and does puja of another god is cursed by both. This applies to every god. Even to Shri Ram and Hanuman..

10. In holy places like shaktipeeths, Prayaag, Shri shaila, Kaashi sadhana can be started at any time of the day., as per Ramandhanumanconsciousness.blogspot.com site.
