Muniswaran, a combined form of a Muni and Lord Shiva, is a creation of Lord Shiva himself and he possesses 7 divine virtues. One of his forms is Jada Muniswaran in whose hands, a Rudrakshmala and a book can be seen. Muniswaran is usually depicted as a warrior, riding on a tiger or lion. He is otherwise known as Muneeswaran, Munnainathar and Muniyan. Muniswaran is the kul devata who is worshipped with great piety and devotion in many south Indian families.

Pooja Rituals

Muneeshwaran's photo or idol can be used for worship. In case you don't have one, then Trishul or a clean brick smeared with turmeric, Vibhooti and Kumkum also would do.
Although anything can be offered with devotion, you can specifically offer sweet Pongal, tamarind rice, lemon rice, fruits, and Tambool or betel nuts with betel leaves. You can also do regular worship to him using dhoopa, deepa, mantras, flowers and fruits and sweets. Some people offer non vegetarian food, cigarettes and alcohol as well. For worship use flowers with good fragrance. If you insist then you can use pipal leaves as well as they add to the purity. Quartz or spatika mala or rosary can be used to chant his mool mantra. You can also use Rudraksha mala.

Mool Mantra Recitation

The best day to get initiated with his mantra is on Shukla paksha Saturday or on any Amavasya. Saturdays and Amavasya are propitious days to chant his mool mantra. Face west or north east or east of your puja room or home to do the japa. If you are outside home, and unable to follow this, then sit under a pipal tree and chant the mantra. It is ideally chanted during early hours of the day, after dusk or at midnight as well.
It is good to recite it once at least every day. But the ideal number of chants would be for 3, 5, 9, 108, or 1,008 times. Tuesdays and Shravana months are those times when he is most powerful. Muneeswaran does not discriminate any one on the basis of gender or age, but his moola mantra should not be chanted during monthly menses by ladies
