Ram Navami 2023: The Hanumat Ramayan That We Will Forever Miss

hanuman

Much before Maharshi Valmiki wrote the world famous Valmiki Ramayan, there was another copy of Ramayan that was written by Lord Hanuman himself. Although Lord Hanuman wrote Ramayan purely for the love of Ram and not for recognition, during his centuries of tapasya, the Ramayan turned out to be many times better than the Valmiki Ramayan. The Hanumant Ramayan is forever missed by humanity now. Let us see how all these happened in the course of time.

It was after successfully completing the 14 years of exile with Goddess Sita, that Lord Rama was coronated as the king of Ayodhya. Hanuman was elated seeing Lord Ram as the King of Ayodhya and felt that his mission was complete. So he expressed to Lord Ram that he had Lord Ram always etched in his heart and he also had the fortune of staying with Lord Ram for so many years. Now that Lord Ram was reinstated and hence Hanuman was bothered by a wish to get back to Himalayas and continue his tapasya on Lord Shiva, and Lord Ram permitted him.

Lord Hanuman's Journey To Himalayas

Lord Hanuman comfortably settled in the snowy and peaceful environs of Mount Kailash and started his tapasya on a serious scale. At the same time, when he found time to scribble something, he etched stories of Ram and Sita in elaborate details, as he saw them and this exercise went on for centuries. He used his nail to carve out Rams story on the rock.

Hanumans Rama Katha was complete one day. It was on the same day that Maharshi Valmiki visited Kailas with his recently written copy of Valmiki Ramayan to present it to Lord Shiva and take his blessings.

Valmiki's Visit To Kailas

As he strode forward near the summit of the Kailas, he saw a glowing rock upon which the entire story of Ramayan had been etched, and the style and the content were beyond human limits and imagination. All minute details had been recorded of Ramas life. Reading it was a hair raising experience for Valmiki and he realized that his work paled significantly in comparison to Hanumat Ramayan. He estimated the fate of his work and realized that it would not be well liked as he had anticipated. With tears in his eyes, he praised Hanumans work and expressed that he had given a magnificent work and there was no need of presenting Valmiki Ramayan to the world as he was sure no one would read his work anymore.

Hanuman's Merciful Heart

Hearing Valmiki out completely, Lord Hanuman was filled with pity for Valmiki and picking up that rock on one hand and lifting Valmiki on the other, he started flying over the ocean carrying both. Once he reached the centre of the ocean, Hanuman dropped the rock right into the middle of the ocean, uttering Jai Shri Ram and it was gone forever. Flying back to Kailas with the Maharshi, Hanuman told him that it remains on record that only Valmiki read it and no one else. And so will it be, in the future. Hanuman blessed Valmiki that his work would be popular and well-read as his a phenomenal epic whose fame will reach far and wide.

Maharishi Valmiki's eyes welled up with tears and he exclaimed " I haven't found any God that is half as merciful as you are. You gave up the austere tapasya and the years of hard work that you had put in writing this book, in a fraction of a moment just to help me. Nobody in this world can be superior to you in kindness and compassion. O Lord. Give me a chance to glorify you once again and let me reincarnate on earth and write a famous stotra about you and Ramayan in a language and expression that everybody will understand.

How Is Maharishi Valmiki Related To Goswami Tulsidas

It is believed that Valmiki kept his word when he later incarnated as Goswami Tulsidas the great poet. He wrote Hanuman Chalisa before he wrote the Ramcharitmanas. Hindus staying all over the globe read the powerful Hanuman Chalisa regularly. People in the field of physical fitness, in order to become well-built and robust bodied, read the Chalisa. He has written many more stotras on Lord Hanuman.

With such immense knowledge and powers, anyone can nurse a king sized ego but Hanuman is so humble, to the extent of being self-effacing. He had the boon of Ashta Siddhi and Nava Nidhi but he dedicated his life to the worship of Sri Ram. He did not even feel remorse for having dropped his unique work into the ocean and did not bat an eyelid in doing the same. His generosity was unparalleled.
