Omens Associated With Coconut Breaking In Temples During Pujas

Coconut is a compulsory ingredient to be used for worship as it represents goddess Mahalakshmi. So without a coconut, the puja is not complete in the real sense. Breaking coconuts is a household ritual in India, with great religious and spiritual significance. Coconuts have to be there at all religious ceremonies where the event begins with breaking of coconut and appeasing the deity. It is also used for festivals and other religious occasions. There are certain omens attached to the breaking of coconut which have been handed down to us from our ancestors. Let us go through the list.
Coconut Breaking: Associated Omens
If the coconut you have just now broken turns out to be empty and dry on both halves assure yourself that something good is going to happen soon and it is Gods' way of telling you that it is an auspicious signal. It is an indication that God has accepted your offering.
Coconut is generally seen as an auspicious product. It is the favourite food of Gods as well. Normally it is a customary to break a coconut before beginning a venture so that your efforts will be graced with success. This should be done early in the morning after taking bath in a temple. If it cracks evenly and into round pieces, it shows that God is perfectly pleased with you and blessings will be given for successful completion of your intended task.
If the coconut you have broken cracks into even pieces and one tiny piece of coconut breaks away from one part and settles into the other broken half, it shows that your efforts will yield benefits quicker and more than imagined.
Similarly, if the coconut breaks open evenly on both sides but a small piece attached to its tuft splits from it and stays right inside it, it is an indication of good luck. It means that you will amass wealth and income. Suppose you break a coconut in a temple and it breaks into two rotten halves which means that the coconut is spoiled. It is not a reason to worry as hints at something auspicious that is going to happen to you, People usually get worried if the broken coconut happens to be rotten as they fear it might mean evil tidings.
Undue clashes with people may occur if a coconut is partly broken into a whole piece and the other half into several pieces. Some problems can raise their head a while later. If coconut breaks into a larger portion of the side having 3 eyes, the wife's wish will be fulfilled. If it is the other way round, then it is the husbands wish that is going to be fulfilled. If the portion of the coconut containing three eyes, turns out to be rotten, when the coconut is broken, you may receive a bad news. If the coconut breaks into multiple pieces, it indicates stumbling blocks on your way. While breaking the coconut, If it breaks lengthwise, it foretells about a new baby's arrival in the family.
If a bad omen occurs while breaking a coconut, buy another coconut, break it and distribute it amongst children and pray with devotion to God to rid you of the effects.
