Gudi Padwa 2023: Spread Abudance And Cheer The Gudi Padwa Way

Gudi or Chaitra Shukla Pratipada is a Maharashtrian spring festival is celebrated on the first day of Chaitra. Called by a variety of names, Gudi Padwa is a festival wherein using the Gudi is compulsory. Gudi is a stick enveloped with cloth that contains sugar, precious stones, neem leaves, mango twigs, wreath of red or marigold blossoms. Gudi is covered by an inverted copper or a silver pot. These are hoisted on the gate entrance, balcony, and windows. Ram was coronated in Ayodhya, Shivaji Maharaj won over Mughals, Brahma began his creation, on the day of Gudi Padwa. Hence Maharastrians, to commemorate these happy events, install Gudi in their homes and celebrate Gudi Padwa. Bring home this Gudi Padwa season, the bountiful blessings and streaks of prosperity and progress by following a few pointers in this direction.
1. Ensure that your home including all its corners of your home are cleaned thoroughly. Everything including curios, furniture, should be free of dust. Clutter and dust trap negative energy inside them. So getting rid of them will eliminate the negativities on all fronts. Dirt and dust are the negative energy that blocks positivity in the house so ward off all the negative energy on this day. Do not hoard unnecessary stuff like newspapers tins etc. Declutter the area by removing them. Unwanted things attract negative energy and the home should be wiped clean of those influences. Also free flow of energy is blocked and hence decluttering is the one of the workable solutions.
2. Keep your home not just clean but well decorated with Rangoli designs, Torans, and change the old bedsheets and replace them with new. This creates a flow of positivity in your home and attracts happiness and prosperity. Use Flowers: Use flowers to decorate your house, Pooja room and door. It beautifies your house and also spreads good fragrances. This increases joy in the house. Mango leaves attract prosperity and positive aura to the house. So tying the Toran made of mango leaves, it energizes the entire home with positivity.
3. Unwashed vessels kept in the sink for a long time not only helps the bacteria thrive but also summons up the negative energies. Dry them under the natural light of the Sun and disinfect them. Incense sticks, dhoop and flowers not only spread fragrances in the house, they will keep the happiness and luck linger much longer.

5. The direction of the main door should be in such that it synchronizes with your date of birth. Make your home Vaastu compliant. Women offer the lunch firstly to God and then distribute it amongst the family members. Consider preparing Puri, Puran Poli, Shrikhand and Sakkar Bhaat on this day. Also try preparing Ugadi Pachadi whose multiple varieties of flavours synchronise with the main purpose of the festival.
All About Gudi
Gudi is a traditional flag that symbolizes victory. It brings luck and fortune, if installed in the house. Made of Bamboo around which dark yellow or bright green silk is wrapped, it is decorated with yellow or red flowers. On the top of this stick, mango and neem leaves are tied and a gathi is inserted.
As a tradition people hoist a flag that is known as "Gudi" outside their house as a symbol of victory. As per Vastu this Gudi brings good luck and fortune.This Gudi is a flag that is made by a bamboo stick on which a dark yellow or bright green colored silk cloth is wrapped. This bamboo stick is decorated by the marigold and red or yellow flowers. On the top of the stick, mango or neem leaves are tied and then a Gathi is inserted. On the top of the stick, place an inverted copper or silver pot and place Gudi at the door or window which directly opposite to the main door.
If you can personally meet your relatives, there is nothing like it. If you can't, in case, send e greetings, speak over the phone, or have a video call set up to communicate with your relatives and to wish them a happy new year.
