Enchanting Temple Of Goddess Renuka And Renuka Tal Far Above The Sea Level In Himachal
At Nahan, in Sirmaur District In Himachal Pradesh, you can find a famous pilgrimage centre or a temple dedicated to Goddess Renuka who is known to be an avatar of Parvati. Let us go through the details.

Built in 1814, this temple is very famous and belongs to Parashuram the son of Renuka and Goddess Renuka, the wife of Jamadagni Rishi. Located about 300 - 310 km from New Delhi and very close to Nahan the Renuka Lake and temple is surrounded by sylvan green hills from all sides.
Located at the base of the Renuka Lake is the Parashurama Tal, a pool that was created as per the wishes of Parashurama who wanted to be in frequent touch with his mother.
During the Renuka fair, mother and son meet annually during November. This temple, was later believed to have been built by a Gurkha regiment in the 19th century.
Legends Around The Renuka Tal and Temple: Number of legends are intervowen with the history of this temple.
When Rishi Jamadagni was disappointed with the conduct and character of his wife Renuka, he ordered Parashurama to kill her.
Without batting an eyelid, he axed his mother to pieces and killed her. When Jamadagni asked him if he wanted any boons, Parashurama asked for the revival of his mother.
According to other legends, scores of years ago, the mighty king Sahasrarjuna killed Rishi Jamadagni, the husband of Renuka.
Frantic and listless, and to escape the advances of the lustful king, Renuka jumps in to the lake to end her life at which point, Gods intervene and resurrect her back to life.
This lake has a strong presence of Renuka devi and hence it is called Renuka Tal. When Parashurama came to know about it, he remembered he was the sixth and a ferocious avatar of Vishnu and annihilated not only sahasrarjuna but wiped out all kshatriya races on earth 21 times.
Summers offer truly pleasant experiences that welcome you to their enchanting world.
Touring Guidelines: Today tourists are allowed to engage in boating rides in the same Renuka Tal. The only restriction is that the boating should not be ventured wearing the shoes on.
This is in order to preserve the sanctity of the lake. It is like an aquatic temple for the devotees. The fish inside this Tal very eagerly receive food from visitors on the boat.
The Renuka Tal along with the Alpine forests allow us to trek, fish, go on a lion safari, ride on paddle boats etc.
For the Trekking Enthusiasts: If you love to view it from trekking angle, there are two temples here, one belonging to Goddess Renuka and the other, on the banks of Renuka Tal, belongs to Parashurama.
There is a small zoo located near the lake, that attracts onlookers with its rare species of animals. It takes an hour to fully explore this zoo.
The Miracle That Is The Village Sangrah: You can also stride further along and visit the village Sangrah, that is located 26 km from the Renuka Lake and 2200 m above the sea level.
What you find difficult to believe is that there is a 700-year-old house that houses 400 generations under the same roof.
This house is made of a paste of mud, urad dal and cow dung thath as withstood the natural disasters, landslides and catastrophes.
The house is made from mud, cow dung and a paste made of urad dal, and has survived the impact of many natural disasters in the region.
Probably mother nature provides easiest solutions from within its treasurehouse of solutions, and we only need to discover them.
The cowdung mud and urad dal paste may truly be an effective pahadi construction secret that helps in preserving the mud houses and it is just that we have not taken it seriously as a topic of study.
Renuka Devi is also most extensively worshipped in Northern Karnataka temples and as yellavva in South Karnataka as well. She has a special place in the hearts of North Indians as well.
