This year the festival will be celebrated on 31 October and on 01 November 2024. The Chaturdashi Tithi begins at 03:45 am on 30 October 2024. Chaturdashi Tithi ends at 06:22 am on 31 October 2024. Abhyang Snan Muhurat is 5:37 am to 7:28 am. Brahma Muhurta is 05:40 am to 06:34 am.

Diwali 2024: Puja Vidhi, Worship Method
On this day, people should get up early in the morning pay tribute to their ancestors, and worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. They clean their houses set them up for puja and decorate them to invite the deities. Since it is an Amavasya day, people also perform Shradh for their ancestors. Also, people keep fast for the entire day and then perform puja and it is broken only after Lakshmi puja in the evening.

Diwali 2024: History
According to Hindu mythology, Diwali is the day Lord Rama came with his wife Sita Devi, and brother Lakshmana to their homeland after 14 years of exile. The villagers lit a path for Rama, who had defeated the demon king Ravana.

Another story says it is on this day Lord Krisha had defeated the demon Narakasura and freed people of his kingdom and then the Lord declared it a day of festivities. In some areas in India, people burn effigies of the demon king as well. The moral of these stories mean celebration of light over darkness and good over evil.

This festival is also associated with pure love as Goddess Lakshmi (Deity of Wealth, and fertility) chose Lord Vishnu as her husband on the night of Diwali. People also enact these stories on this day.

Diwali 2024: Food To Offer To Deities
Making traditional sweets at home is a part of the Diwali festival and before they get shared with family members, friends, and others, they are first offered to the deities- Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. Therefore, on this day, you can make these sweets which are extremely simple and easy to make.

1. Motichoor Laddoo: Lord Ganesha's favorite sweet is made with desi ghee, gram flour, sugar syrup, edible color, and cucumber seeds.
2. Atta Halwa: A simple sweet, it is made with wheat flour, water, ghee, sugar, nuts, and cardamom powder. It's a sweet pudding offered to Goddess Lakshmi.
3. Kaju Barfi: A popular Diwali sweet, it is made with cashew paste, milk powder, powdered, sugar, and silver varq.
4. Gulab Jamun: A soft, sweet round sweet, it is made from refined flour, khoya, paneer, and cardamom powder, dunked in sugar syrup, and served to deities.

Diwali 2024: Celebrations
The celebrations of Diwali is different across India and in the northern states, people decorate their home, with light diyas and burst firecrackers. Pujas are organised and bhog is offered to the deities. Exchanging sweets on this day, organizing feasts, and donning colorful clothes is a colorful tradition.
