Chanakya Niti: Life Events That Are Predetermined
Acharya Chanakya was a contemporary of the Mauryans in the times of Chandragupta. Chanakya mentored Chandragupta when he was in troubled times. Mauryan empire spread far and wide due to the wise strategies of Chanakya. He was called by two other names, namely Kautilya and Vishnugupta. He wrote two epic works namely Kautilyas arthashastra and Chankya Niti which are still now relevant.

He explains in one of his slokas that some part of our destiny is prewritten and can't be changed. These are decided by luck or the purva punya which has carried over to this janma. The destiny gets decided when the entity is in mother's womb. We can't change it through any means. Let us see what we can't change about our destiny.
1. Chanakya opines that date of birth and date of death are predetermined. We are destined to be born on a particular date and die on a particular date both of which are determined before we are born. After undergoing all the experiences, we breathe our last and the day of death can neither be postponed or preponed. This is the case with birth. We all owe something to Mother earth and we arrive and depart based on the debt we owe to her.
2. Human beings always make the basic error of blaming destiny when something goes wrong. They forget that our life is also impacted deeply by our karmas of previous lifetimes. We do not know the nature and extent of our karmas of our last lifetime and hence remain unaware of the cause for our problems. Our future is the sumtotal of our karmas that we did in the past lives. But we are ignorant about the karmic connections of our lives.
3. We normally overwork or do additional jobs to attain a better quality of life but little do we know that we will finally get what we are destined to get. The pain and pleasure in our lives has a pattern and It is predetermined when we are destined to derive happiness or sorrow in our lives. We always expect dividends for our work, which we think is our basic right to get, but we only enjoy money and wealth as per our destiny.
4. If you are destined to acquire knowledge, we will surely acquire to that extent. The extent of knowledge that we are destined to get is also predetermined. We cannot derive more knowledge than we can handle or destined to handle.
5. Death is determined before birth and not when one is nearing his last moments. The manner of death and source of death is also not in our hands. Death is unavoidable. When the time comes, all of us have to leave. Some scriptures say that the number of inhalations and exhalations that we take on this earth from the point of birth to the grave is predestined. We cant bribe Yama and get rid of the bane of death. We have our appointed measure of work that we have to accomplish on earth and when we complete those obligations, we have to leave no matter what.
