Bali Chakravarti And Vibheeshana: Blessed immortals
The entire world runs along a natural course of events and the supreme God runs the show as the puppeteer who makes us dance to his tunes. Death and birth are under his jurisdiction and no one has ever escaped this cycle ever. This is the rule by which the world runs. No one is beyond Time except God who can extend or shorten our lives as he wills.

Through Lord Vishnu's blessings, some have achieved immortality and there are seven of them. Out of this list, we are discussing about two immortals who are popular and known to common men as well. They are Bali Chakravarti and Vibheeshana on whom we will shed a little light. Remembering them rids one from sicknesses and bestows longevity as per the scriptures.
Bali Chakravarti
Bali chakravarti, also referred fondly as Mahabali or Maveli, by people of Kerala, is one of the seven immortals who was blessed by Vishnu to be a chiranjeevi (immortal). He was an exemplary administrator, and showed excellent qualities of heart and head although he was a demon by birth.
Bali's Disposition
His kind and generous deeds were the talk of three worlds. Performing 100 yagnyas was the goal of his life, after which he would get the Indra Padavi or the title of Indra and he was already the established ruler of the heaven and earth.
His Fame Spreads Worldwide
During such a time, reports of his valour and kindness reached Lord Vishnu who was told that Bali would rule the three worlds if he is allowed to grow to that extent. Bali was short of the 100th yagnya performing which he would ascend to and rule heavens, enslaving the devas under his rule. So Lord Vishnu assuring them that things would be alright soon, descended from Vaikunta, and reached the city of Bali in no time.
Lord Vishnu assumes Vamana avatar
Assuming a young priests form, he gained entry into Bali's court. Bali's heart melted at the sight of a young tiny Brahmin lad with such simple clothes. He promised the lad that he would give him anything he asked him for. Vamana or the tiny tot, without blinking an eyelid, asked him to give him the portion of land which he cover with his three steps. Bali mindlessly agreed to the plan.
Vamana Grows Huge In Size
Now Vamana grew huge in size and covered the entire stretch of two worlds with two steps. He asked Bali where he could step next. Bali answered unflinchingly "upon my head." Vamana placed his feet on Balis head which took him downwards as far as Patal loka. Vishnu blessed Bali for his equanimity and blessed him with immortality and a chance to visit his kingdom on earth, which was Kerala, once a year. Bali is blessed to be the Indra during the reign of the 8th Manu in the next yuga.
Vibheeshan, An Immortal Blessed By Lord Rama
Born to the same parents Vaishravana and Kaikasi, the two brothers, Vibheeshan and Ravan grew up to be poles apart. While Vibheeshan was Ram's ardent devotee, Ravan had an unbelievable hatred towards Ram. But both of them knew about Ram and that he was an incarnation of Vishnu on earth. While Vibheeshana was well aware of the truth, Ravan was far from reality as he was shrouded by arrogance and ego. While Ravana died a pitiful death at the hands of Ram. Vibheeshana became an immortal due to the blessings of Ram.
Vibheeshan's Timely Help
Vibheeshana knew Ravanas well-guarded secrets which he preserved about his life and cause of his death. Initially he forced Ravana to give up Sita and respectfully hand her over to Rama; otherwise his plan will miserably backfire. Ravana was deaf to his pleas as he saw the world with lust tinted spectacles and unable to see the truth behind it. When Vibheeshana revealed Ravans secrets to Ram, he was able to kill Ravan. During the fight, Ravana was gaining in power with every strike and blow on his body and Ram also could not control it Hence he approached Vibheeshana to know if there was any secret behind it.
When Vibheeshan Divulges Ravanas Secret To Rama
Vibheeshan divulged it to Rama, he used this trick against Ravana and finally killed him. The secret was that Ravana had a pouch of nectar inside his navel and that helped him to come back to life and gain more energy every time he was hit. Rama prayed to Lord Shiva who gave him two very powerful arrows just meant for that purpose. Rama used them effectively and killed Ravana. Rama, pleased with Vibheeshan for his loyalty and devotion, bestowed him immortality. So Vibheeshan lives on even today
