Badrinath temple: Fascinating Facts About Badri Vishal In Uttaranchal
Char dham is the most sacred pilgrimage centre of Hindus who flock here mainly because it bestows Moksha. Badri dham especially, is the last of all the Divya Deshams. So it is the last resort to go to for Hindus to whom the Lord Badri Vishal wipes out the sins committed in previous lifetimes and grants sadgati and Moksha. Charm Dham temples are spread across all four directions in India.

Badrinath temple is located in Garhwal mountain ranges in Himalayas near the Alaknanda River in Chamoli in Uttarakhand. According to Legends, Adi Shankara found the Black shaligram idol of Badri Narayan the Alakananda river and placed the idol near the Tapt Kund Springs. It is known that later the King of Garhwal moved the murti inside the temple.
1. Badrinath temple is part of Chota char dhams of India (Badrinath, Kedarnath, gangotri, and yamunotri) and Chardhams ( Badrinath, dwarka, puri and rameshwaram) of india.
2. The Badrikashram or Badrinath was called by different names in different yugas. Muktiprada in satya yuga, yogasiddha in treta Yuga,, Vishala in Dwapar yuga, and Badri Vishal or Badrikashram in Kali yuga.
3. Badrinath records the maximum of visitors in the 6-month period when it is open to Devotees. It is on record that during 2019, 12 lakh devotees visited Badrinath.
4. It is situated at an elevation of 10,279 feet above the sea level and almost touches the china border.
5. Badrinath, Yogdhyan Badri, Vridha badri, Adi Badri, and Bhavishya Badri are the Panch Badri Kshetras that are found in India and Badrinath is one of them. All Panch Badris are located in Chamoli of Uttarakhand.
6. Lord Badrinath idol which stands about 3 and a half feet in height, is carved in Shaligram in padmasan posture in a meditative stance.

9. It is believed to have been visited by Lord Rama. Pandavas, Markandeya Rishi, and Tulsidas in their lifetimes. Vyas Gufa or Guha is located in Badrinath which is as old as 5000 years. It is 200 metres above the Mana village of Uttarakhand. Maharshi Vyas lived here and composed his works.
10. Badrinath is worshipped by the brahmins of the Namoodari caste from Kerala who are referred to as Rawals. Originally they were not incharge of worship. When Mahant Ramakrishna Swami died leaving no heirs to his position, the Namboodari brahmins were chosen to continue the puja tradition. They are supposed to be celibate all their life and even touching a woman due to any reason is considered a sin.
11. After closing doors every year of Badrinath temple for six months, the Akhand Jyoti that is lit, continues to burn in this 6-month interval.
12. Usually any temple opens with only one key. The door of Badrinath opens using three keys out of which one will be Tehri Raj family priest, the other with Mehtar of Badri nath, and the other with Haq Bhandari group of people. Badrinath can open only with these three keys. If it is not present, then nothing else can open it.
13. Out of the Vaishnavaite 108 divya deshams, all that we get to see are 105 which are found in India, and one in Nepal, and the rest two beyond the earth.
14. After closing the temple for 6 months, Lord Badrinaths idol is dabbed with ghee. After six months, it is the priests that enter the temple first. If the ghee is intact on God, it shows that prosperity is indicated for the country, If the ghee depleted and dry, the country might face a torrential rain fall.
15. So many times, it has been devastated by avalanches of snow and then again rebuilt by kings in the respective periods.
16. Badrinath is closed for six months in a year because Lord Vishnu is awake for 6 months of the time and sleeps for 6 months. Secondly it is believed that it is the time of Maharishis and Gods to visit the Badrinath to offer their prayers. The doors of all chota char dham temples are closed for 6 months in a year.
17. Badrinath Dham in Uttaranchal is located inbetween two mountains namely Nara mountain and Naryana mountain.
18. Lord Narasimha temple at Joshimath has a very interesting legend to say. The arm of the Narasimha is growing thin day by day and it is It is predicted that when it completely thins down and breaks into two, there is going to be a natural disaster in which these two mountains merge into one and a new Badri Vishal temple will be built near Dhauliganga river, as foreseen by Adi Shankaracharya.
19. There is a place called Brahma kapala where in Lord Shiva rid himself of Brahma hatya sin. Hence people visit this place to do pind daan.
20. Once Goddess Lakshmi, angry with Vishnu, left to her parental home. When she returned pacified, after some time, she found upon searching, Lord Vishnu in the forest full of Badri trees, meditating. So she called him Badrinath.
21. Tapt Kund is a tank that oozes hot water springs just below the temple. Having a bath in this kund is known to be therapeutic.
