Ayodhya Ram Mandir Timeline Of Events

The roots of this dispute go long back and people, religious leaders from both communities- Hindu and Muslim, have made numerous claims. Let us know the history before the construction of this temple and the main stages of the dispute.

Arrival Of Babar And Construction Of Babri Masjid
According to historical facts, the Mughal emperor Babur arrived in India in the year 1526. According to the mosque's inscriptions, it was built in 1528-29 (935 AH) by Mir Baqi, a general of Babur. This came to be known as Babri Masjid.

Claims And Communal Dispute
For the first time in the year 1813, Hindu organizations presented their claim on this place. According to him, this was Ram's birthplace and there was a temple here. He said that the mosque was constructed after removing this temple. After this claim of Hindus, along with prayers, worship also started taking place at this disputed site.

In the year 1853, the first incident of violence took place between Hindu-Muslim communities over this disputed issue. This year, communal violence broke out in Ayodhya for the first time during the reign of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of Awadh.

Dispute Regarding Place Of Worship
After 1855, Hindus were prohibited from entering this complex for worship. In such a situation, people of the Hindu community started worshiping at Ram Chabutra, located 150 feet away from the main premises of the mosque. After this, the British rule built a wall in front of the mosque. The main inner area was reserved for the Muslim community and the outer area was assigned for Hindu prayers.

Lower Court Intervenes In 1885 For The First Time
This controversial case reached the lower court for the first time in the year 1885. Mahant Raghubar Das applied in the district court of Faizabad to build a chhatri and temple on Ram Chabutra, which was rejected by the court.

Communal Riots In 1934
Riots broke out again this year in Ayodhya. This time some part of Babri Masjid was demolished in the violence. After these riots, prayers were stopped at this disputed site.

The Statue Of Lord Rama Founded In 1949
In the year 1949, idols of Lord Ram were found in the main dome of the mosque. The Muslim side claimed that these idols were kept by the Hindu side. After the communal atmosphere again became sensitive, the Faizabad court got the main gate of the disputed structure locked. After this, from 1959 to 1961, on one side the Nirmohi Akhara claimed ownership of the disputed site, and on the other side the Sunni Waqf Board.

In 1986, the Faizabad court ordered the opening of the locks and the next year the entire case was transferred to the Allahabad court. Allahabad High Court in 1989 asked to maintain the status quo at the disputed site.

Demolition Of Babri Masjid
For the first time in the year 1990, Karseva was organized in Ayodhya for the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement. Karsevaks had climbed the mosque and hoisted the flag, after which five Karsevaks were killed in police firing. After this, in 1992, Kar Sevaks were once again called from across the country. Many Hindu organizations came together and gathered thousands of Kar Sevaks in Ayodhya and the structure of the mosque was demolished on 6 December. After this incident, communal riots broke out in many parts of the country in which more than two thousand people were killed.

After this, the investigation into the demolition of Babri Masjid was started and this case also started in the court.

Ram Mandir Reconstruction
Vishwa Hindu Parishad called for the reconstruction of Ram temple at the disputed site in the years 2001-2002. Hundreds of Hindu workers gathered in Ayodhya for the construction of the temple. While returning from Ayodhya, a train full of Hindu servants caught fire in Godhra. After that communal riots broke out throughout Gujarat. For a long time, the status quo regarding this place remained and each side kept staking its claim.

Year 2010 - Allahabad High Court divided the land of the disputed structure among three parties. The ownership rights were divided between Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara, and Ram Lalla. 14 petitions were filed against this decision of the High Court and the Supreme Court rejected this decision of the High Court. In 2017, a criminal case was ordered against some top leaders Advani, Uma Bharti, and Murli Manohar Joshi for the demolition of Babri Masjid.

Supreme Court Historic Verdict In 2019
The Supreme Court sent the matter for arbitration. The case was heard continuously for 40 days in the Supreme Court from August 6. On November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court bench unanimously ruled 5-0 in favor of Ram Lalla, considering the disputed site as the site of the temple. Under this, the disputed land was considered as Ram Janmabhoomi, and the government was ordered to give 5 acres of land in Ayodhya for the mosque.

Only after this, the construction of the Ram temple has been started at Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya.
